The Senior Product Manager (SPM) at Mercans is responsible for defining, delivering, and evolving key modules within the global payroll SaaS platform. This role drives product vision, roadmap execution, and continuous improvement across assigned domains, ensuring alignment with business strategy, customer needs, statutory compliance, and market trends.
As a senior product leader, the SPM translates vision into outcomes—owning roadmaps, defining differentiated features, enabling product-led growth, and collaborating closely with Engineering, Compliance, Operations, Business Development, Customer Success, and Support. The role is critical to building a scalable, secure, and intelligent payroll platform that supports Mercans’ global expansion.
Product Strategy & Roadmap Management
Own product vision, roadmap, and lifecycle for assigned modules. Translate business, customer, and compliance requirements into epics, features, and backlog items with clear acceptance criteria. Lead delivery from discovery through release, ensuring quality, adoption readiness, and continuous feedback.
Market Intelligence & Differentiation
Analyze market trends, competitors, and customer feedback to identify gaps and innovation opportunities. Define differentiated features and USPs. Partner with Commercial and Marketing teams on positioning, competitive enablement, and value articulation.
Global Payroll Engine Leadership
Own strategy and roadmap for the global payroll engine, ensuring scalability, multi-country adaptability, and statutory compliance. Define logic supporting gross-to-net calculations, multi-currency payroll, statutory deductions, taxes, retro adjustments, and auditability. Collaborate with Compliance to embed country-specific rules and with Engineering/Data teams to deliver AI-driven capabilities such as anomaly detection and predictive variance analysis.
Platform Scalability & Modularization
Champion modular, API-first architecture enabling multi-tenant scalability, configurability, and faster deployments. Define reusable components, configuration templates, and feature toggles.
API, Integration & Ecosystem Enablement
Define requirements for integrations with HRIS, ERP, WFM, and finance systems. Own public API lifecycle, ensuring security, extensibility, and SLA compliance. Support white-label, reseller, and partner enablement through integration toolkits and documentation.
Customer Success & Operations Alignment
Partner with Customer Success and Operations to ensure successful onboarding, feature adoption, and issue resolution. Participate in strategic client discussions, QBRs, and escalations. Drive product-led solutions to reduce manual effort and operational complexity.
Compliance, Security & Governance
Ensure ongoing statutory compliance across all supported jurisdictions. Maintain audit-ready documentation for ISO/SOC requirements. Collaborate with Security teams to embed privacy, access control, encryption, and data governance into all product features.
Analytics, Delivery & Innovation Governance
Define product success metrics and track adoption, efficiency, and business impact. Improve delivery processes, backlog quality, and sprint execution. Govern innovation intake, prioritization, and executive visibility.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
Mentor junior product managers, promote product excellence, documentation discipline, and customer-centric thinking.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or related field.
10+ years of B2B SaaS product management experience, including 5+ years in senior product leadership roles.
At least 3 years’ experience in payroll or payroll SaaS products with strong understanding of global payroll, compliance, and localization.
Proven expertise in APIs, modular platforms, Agile delivery, and cross-functional leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree (MBA or MS).
Deep expertise in global payroll engines, statutory automation, and rule-based systems.
Knowledge of GDPR, ISO 27001, SOC 2, and data privacy frameworks.
Experience with monetization strategies, white-label SaaS, and partner platforms.
Relevant product or Agile certifications (CSPO, SAFe PM/PO, PMP, Pragmatic).
