The Global Head of Tax Compliance oversees the strategy and execution of payroll tax compliance across all regions where the company’s software operates. This role ensures products and internal processes meet regulatory requirements, stay updated with changing legislation, and deliver accurate, reliable, and legally compliant payroll tax solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tax Compliance Oversight: Develop and execute a global payroll tax compliance strategy leveraging AI, ML, and automation. Implement scalable processes for collecting, analyzing, and applying payroll regulations. Ensure software updates reflect accurate tax rules and validate calculations for legal compliance.
  • Risk Management: Identify compliance risks and implement mitigation strategies. Conduct periodic risk assessments to maintain robust tax compliance measures.
  • Collaboration with Product Development: Advise product and engineering teams on tax compliance requirements, incorporate regulations into software design, and implement product improvements for SaaS readiness. Ensure the software supports third-party compliance partner integrations.
  • Statutory Integrations: Identify and implement necessary integrations with statutory authorities and third parties to deliver market-competitive SaaS services.
  • Audits and Reporting: Conduct internal audits, prepare compliance reports, maintain accurate documentation, and liaise with external auditors or regulatory agencies.
  • Stakeholder Education & Support: Develop processes to educate internal and external stakeholders on payroll tax regulations. Provide training, resolve tax queries within SLAs, and implement knowledge management processes for efficient regulatory guidance. Support business development teams with compliance expertise.
  • Policy Development: Develop and maintain company policies related to payroll tax compliance, ensuring alignment with evolving tax laws and best practices.
  • Leadership & Strategy: Lead and mentor the compliance team, provide strategic direction, ensure high performance, and drive customer satisfaction and revenue growth. Present regular compliance updates to senior management.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of global payroll tax laws, reporting requirements, and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to present complex tax concepts to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall).
  • Proficiency with payroll software systems and tax calculation engines.

Experience & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 10+ years in payroll tax compliance or regulatory roles.
  • 3+ years leading compliance teams (≥5 members) in payroll outsourcing or software companies.
  • Experience managing audits and working with tax authorities.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CPP, CPA) are a plus.
