SIGHTSEEING IN YOUR CITY:
TASTE
COMMUNITY
RESTURANT:
FORT WORTH,TX
By Zanae Ari
Come Taste and See
Cowboys, big steaks, ranchers, and the Dallas Cowboys are just
some of words that come to mind when people think of the Big
State of Texas. The saying “everything is bigger in Texas” rings
true in the Texas Edition sized Ford pickup trucks driven
throughout the state and in the giant, rotating ball atop of the
Reunion Tower in Downtown Dallas. Yet, the founders and
volunteers at Taste Community Restaurant have taken the
notion of “everything is bigger in Texas” and applied it to their
vision and heart to feed, educate, and serve Fort Worth’s food
insecure population.
Hidden Gem
Just a few miles outside of Dallas, Texas, nestled in the heart of
downtown Fort Worth, resides a hidden gem: Taste Community
Restaurant. Inspired by Psalm 34:8 “…taste and see the Lord is
good”, this pay-what-you can restaurant invites everyone,
despite their financial means, to enjoy chef inspired meals that
feature delicious and seasonal menu items. Lamb, Panang
Curry, Chicken Picatta, Chicken Street Taco, and even
Bruschetta are just some of the meals that are featured on the
seasonal menu options. Local and surrounding residents of all
walks of life are invited to dine at this open, yet slightly
communal seating restaurant as people build community with
one another through the enjoyment of food and drinks. It is the
people, environment, and food that leave a lasting impression
on customers who visit Taste Community Restaurant as well as
the volunteers who offer their time and skills to support the
restaurant’s vision. The founders, volunteers, and community
members have a big vision to see the community be the solution
to hunger issues within the community and opens its doors
Tuesdays through Sundays to do just that.
So the next time you are in Fort Worth, Texas or if you are a
local, check out Taste Community Restaurant in Downtown Fort
Worth so you can taste and see for yourself!
