Ultimate Guide to Position Yourself For Success
Can you quickly scan through your memory and identify five students you know who are already making a difference in life? - The difference I mean is not having the top grade in their study but extraordinary differences like living their dreams, creating value, inspiring others, and making money.
Can you?
There you go!
You are done? Great.
Maybe you did observe that these set of students have something in common or you probably think, it’s just mere luck. Well, you could be correct but, if you look closely you will realize that it is not a top-grade that is helping them to go places, it is something else that is creating what seems like luck.
Don’t get me wrong – top grade is important, in fact, it is the best to achieve as a student, if you have the opportunity to get it, grab it with your molar teeth.
But then, in today’s world, there is more to success than grades and certificates, in fact, certificates are probably not the surest pathway anymore.
In the world we live today, I can tell you three proven pathways to position yourself for success.
…attitude, reading, and networking. Equip yourself with these 3 and you will always almost seem to be lucky.
Have you ever heard the saying “your attitude is your altitude”?
Let examine how it work.
Use good attitude to attract opportunity
Attitude is what defines you and sets you aside from the rest. It’s so intriguing that attitude is a two ways road, whichever one you choose would walk for you in the exact way you choose it. If you choose to favored you will know how to jealously carry your attitude toward achieving your goals, executing your plans, and relating to people.
The way you see yourself in your mind shapes the way people see you, the way you think about yourself determines how you do everything. It affects the way you present yourself, the way you relate to people, and the way you address issues. As a result, people see you the way you’ve chosen to be.
Good attitude attract good gesture, it doesn’t mean you should be unnecessary tolerant, but you should be purposeful, rational, and kind in what you do.
People love to surround themselves with someone who has their interest in mind, and as much as someone cares about them, they tend to favor them in return.
Read to be ahead
When I say read, I don’t mean those social media gossips or zealous struggling for certificate and cramming to ace your exam only to say “may we never meet again”. That alone won’t take you far.
I mean reading books of high impact with positive values, books that will challenge you, give you smart advice, and dare you to challenge the status quo. Books on creativity, career, personal development, business, prosperity consciousness, leadership, biography and autobiography of successful people, and many others.
You need to read, to learn, relearn, and unlearn,
The award winning writer and novelist – Haruki Murakami puts it right.
“If you only read the books that everyone else is reading, you can only think what everyone else is thinking.”
So read… based on your talent, passion and goals.
Reading is the easiest way to dodge mistakes and leap over several failures, it is a smart way to achieve in days what the author had achieved in years.
Be deliberate about reading, make it a passion, absorb the information, act upon the ideas you derive from it, and put them into action.
Do it every week if not every day, soon you’ll be ahead of your peers, you will think and look smarter, and you will amass a wealth of idea and experience to get ahead in life.
Invest your money in paper books, read value-added blogs, or go the way of e-books, you can check Amazon Kindle.
Today, anyone who is doing something extraordinary and influence people would tell you “reading has taken them this far”. This is true because I’m enjoying the impact of reading in my life.
Choose Your Network.
Maybe you have encountered the popular saying that “your network is your net-worth”. I know it would look nauseating telling you about this because you seem to understand it better.
Anyway, let me just share my little idea about it.
Just take a look at the six people you spend most of your day with, that’s who you become. The people you hang out with have a tremendous impact in your life, they influence your thinking, your dressing, what you value, your view about life, and others I can mention. They could either help you grow faster or help you lose focus and become miserable.
They will offer you all they could as assistance to become like who they are.
After all, what are friends for?
Jim Rohn said it well:
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with”.
So, if you are truly committed to achieving your goals, as ash as it may sound, you may want to consider who you allow into your peer group. You must choose your friends wisely and most especially try to be a friend with people who are smarter than you, this will help you grow, connect you with opportunities, critique your idea and mentor you.
The way to connect with smart or influential people is not by jostling around them, but by helping them without expecting something in return. Do this consistently, your name will soon be registered in their mind and one day, they will be pushed to reciprocate your kind gesture. Look at something missing in them and offer to help fix it.
Your life and happiness are too important to allow plebs to be in.
If you can cultivate a good attitude, invest time and resources in consuming actionable great books, and connect with smart people, the odd that you have not created your own luck is almost impossible.
