The Importance of Storytelling
___________________________________________________________________________________
Oh the humanity of our flawed lives.
On a daily basis my eyes are corrupted by endless articles, new podcast episodes,
emails, newsletters. My head is bursting at the seams with new information. It all
feels so foggy like a mild headache.
Some of these articles are really boring and these podcasts make me afraid of falling
asleep at the wheel.
As a way to escape I put on an old Gilmore Girls episode. My body and mind let the
constant dialogue wash over me like a warm shower.
Everything else has officially been tucked away in my brain for safe keeping. My
only focus is these women linguistically taking the world by storm one analogy at a
time.
Then I hear the quote “I can’t remember the books I’ve read anymore than the
meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.” Thank you Ralph Waldo Emerson
and Amy Sherman Palladino.
That is when it all connected for me.
Storytelling is perfect in its imperfect translation. All we humans can do is digest as
much as we can and once in a while the fog clears and we make note of something
unforgettable.
That is the beauty of stories. We never know what is going to make it through
osmosis. These stories that are not our own become part of us. Delicately threaded.
If you are reading this now and you are seeing the fog clear, I am doing my job.
