Active Beauty: Beauty Tips for the Athlete
You're an athlete, and you love to be out doing what you do. Whether you're a runner, a soccer player, a swimmer, or any other kind of athlete, being active is a large part of your life. However, that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice beauty and femininity. It may seem that way, since so many products seem to melt off the second you start to do anything resembling a workout. However, there are some beauty tips you can use and product types to look for that can help you look great and stay active, as well.
Tinted Lip Balm with Sunscreen
Finding tinted lip balm with sunscreen is one of the best ways to ensure that you are receiving the protection from the sun you need but also fulfilling your beauty needs. A little bit of color on the lips never hurt anyone, and it's great, even if you're out for a run. The tints are usually not too bright, so they look natural, but they help. Also, you'll perform better when you feel good, and sometimes a splash of color can help.
Water Resistant Foundation with Sunscreen
Sunscreen is the overarching theme here, but it's very important if you're going to be out in the sun a lot. Make sure you wear a foundation with sunscreen that is water resistant if you're going to wear foundation during your workout. Sometimes, wearing foundation can actually help you. However, if you're participating in an event like a marathon, it might not be the best idea, just because if you end up needing medical attention they may not know your actual skin tone and diagnosing you may be more difficult. However, for everyday training, wearing waterproof foundation with sunscreen can help you stay protected and feel feminine.
Waterproof Mascara
Most athletic women wear minimal makeup, and it might be because of the minimalist lifestyle or "back to nature" lifestyle that a lot of athletes maintain. However, mascara is a great way to make your eyes stand out without being too obvious. Get a good waterproof mascara and put some on your upper lashes for a bit of fashion and fun.
Hair Essentials
Your hair can get sunburned, in a sense, like your skin can. Oftentimes, athletes suffer from very dry or brittle hair from being out in the elements so often. Try to find a hair masque that will help to relieve this condition. Anything with shea butter, honey, or avocado should be a great option.
Skin Talk
Skin in general, not just on your face, can take a beating when exposed to the elements often. Try to find a hydrating body butter for your entire body and use it after every shower. Try to use it at least twice per day. A great choice is Bath & Body Works' Body Butter. This supple and hydrating salve is great for skin that is often out in the sun, water, and wind.
Beauty is more than just skin deep, but keeping the exterior of your body as fit and fabulous as the inside will go a long way in keeping you looking as great as you feel. Sun, wind, and water can do a lot of damage to skin and hair, so make sure to take extra special care of it. Adding a bit of makeup to your routine that has, at the minimum, SPF 15 is a great way to protect your skin and look great at the same time. However, when you're going to be out in the elements for an extended period of time, be sure to use regular sunscreen of at least SPF 45 for the best protection.
