 CYBER CRIME Cyber crime is the new breed of crime, which is either perpetrated using computers, or is otherwise related to them. Cyber crime has assumed sinister implications today as everything from microwave ovens and refrigerators to nuclear power plants is being run on computers. Unpredictable growth of information technology has brought everything for us. This unpredictable growth has increased the vulnerability and provides criminal opportunities of a variety that the brightest criminals of yore could not have even dreamt about. Cyber crimes can be committed against persons ,property, or government. Unauthorized access of computer information eg: e mail bombing, data diddling ,salami attack ,Trojan attack, virus/worm attack are the main cyber crimes. Un authorized access also known as cracking, gaining access to a system without permission of the user or without proper authority ,generally done either by faking identity ,or by cracking access codes. Cyber crimes against government is a common happening now a day eg: hacking government records and all. It is also known as cyber terrorism, in which an individual cracks into a government or military maintained website. We never can forget the name Robert Tappan Morris well known as first Hacker, son former Nation Security Agency scientist Robert Morris, was the first person to be prosecuted under the computer and fraud act 1986.He created a set a worm and by using that worm virus it were destroyed 6000computers and completely malfunctioned. He was sentenced to three years probation ,400 hours of community service and accessed a fine of $10500. In India "Information and Technology act 2000 says about computer usage and users how to use it and how to access information without a bad manner. The perpetuators in most cases remain unknown .Really the knowledge of how to steal cyber crime has equipped the main thief with a tool which seems to be more powerful than a gun.
