Subject: interview about artificial intelligence on medical insurance claims
Hi Michael!
Thank you for responding to my query.
Excuse the delay in my response. Much took place yesterday to keep me from replying
to you sooner. My deadline has been pushed back to the end of this coming weekend.
I am very interested in getting in touch with Cortical.io. I checked out the website and it
is apropos with what I am seeking.
Yes, please do arrange the call. I am glad they want to go on the record with this. I
thought for a moment that a technology company might help insurance companies with
this.
You are welcome to pass my questions along to them. They are as follows:
1) Do Prudential or other insurance companies collaborate with health insurance
companies directly to get medical claim records or do they have a partner (3rd party)
that specializes in this?
2) Do Prudential or other insurance companies automatically pay supplemental claims
or do they just notify employees that they are eligible to file a claim?
3) How do employees opt-in? Is this part of open enrollment or a separate process?
4) Anecdotally, how useful or successful has the new service been? Do employees like
the service and have they found it beneficial?
5) Are there any additional costs to employers or employees?
Prudential Insurance recently launched a new service that monitors employee medical
insurance claims and notifies them if they qualify for supplemental benefits from an
accident or hospital indemnity product. On the surface, it looks like this could be a new
innovation in insurance, which makes me think it would be an interesting feature article.
The reason I'm interested in this is that it looks like it could be a new application of
Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the insurance industry, and it may be the start of a new trend
in the industry to eliminate paperwork for employees who have claims. If that's true, I
believe many other insurance carriers will start similar services.
For more details, please see a link to a recent article about the service. The article is
mostly based on a press release:https://iireporter.com/prudential-builds-supplementalhealth-claims-process-from-the-customers-perspective/
As you can imagine, I want to go a bit deeper.
I look forward to hearing from and working with you on this.
Warmest regards,
Vladimire Herard

Hi Vladimire. Cortical.ioʼs current insurance focus has been on the insurer side,
specifically group benefit quoting.
So they donʼt have answers to the 5 specific questions you asks. We can talk
about how AI & NLP could help with claims based on a similar approach as our
current use cases. Would that work?

Hi Michael,
That would work just fine. Really, thank you for your efforts on this.
I knew that this trend -- if it is one -- is so new that I would have trouble finding
information.
Yes, let's talk about AI and NLP for an approximation to this possible practice.
Let me know the source expert, what day and time is best and if phone or email
works for an interview.
Warmest regards,
Vladimire Herard

Thank you, Michael, really!
I appreciate your assistance with this interview and my efforts to help another
freelance writer write about this subject.
Thank you for the wav file. I will pass this on and your name and contact
information and Mr. Levine's to the writer for his journal article on medical claims
and artificial intelligence. He goes by the name JP M. and is in Carmichael,
California.
In this way, both of you can serve as his sources for this and other newsletter
trade articles about insurance companies, medicine, technology and AI for
hereonin.
I may also reach out to you in the future about articles I am preparing about
senior long-term and short-term care and aging issues.
I've written about seniors and caregiving, dementia, dentistry, disability, drugs,
energy assistance, health, housing, Medicaid, Medicare, nutrition, podiatry,
Social Security, technology and transportation.
Now I plan to write seniors and allergies, cancer, diversity, employment, finance,
funeral planning, heart health, hoarding, immune system protection,
incontinence, intergenerational programs, long-term insurance, lung health,
menopause, vision and volunteerism.
I may ask you for sources for stories for this. I identified with the writer's quest
for AI and insurance because of my senior Medicaid/Medicare/Social Security
articles.
Thank you and Mr. Levine for your help. I will follow up with you on this and my
future work.
Warmest regards,
Vladimire Herard
