The crazy rise and fall of Paige Spirinac’s Career
Paige Spiranac is known to many as a professional social media influencer who uses her golfing
persona to build her brand and popularity. And she has been caught under criticism for this very
reason several times.
And if you have had this perception about her then you are not the only one as there are tons of
influencers who present themselves as athletes and have never competed in a professional
event.
But what you probably don't know is that Paige had a solid time in her golfing career. Before all
of her instagram, podcasting and youtube stuff got viral, Paige was a dedicated golfer.
Because of her social media presence most of us don't know that Spiranac started playing golf
at a very young age. She started gymnastics at first but golf quickly became her number one
sport.
As a Junior Athlete
She had a fine start in her junior years where she won 5 tournaments including 2010 CWGA
junior stroke play. She was honored by her future collegians world tour as the west regional year
twice. Won medals at the golfweek junior orange tree open and the golfweek junior trilogy in
2011.
With these wins and several others, she immediately became a top 20 junior golfer in the world.
Her junior year success continued in college where she again won multiple tournaments. In her
freshman year She started off the season by competing in three events. Her best score was 73.
As a College Athlete
Although it was her sophomore year that got the most attention. The 2012-13 season earned
her first team all mountain west honors, a fifth-place finish at the Cal Classic, a sixth at the
Mountain West Championship, and nineteenth at the NCAA Central Regional Championships.
She also managed to maintain a brilliant 76.25 stroke average in all seven events during her
spring schedule. Everything was going pretty solid and what seemed to be a build up to a
promising professional career.
2013-14 season resulted in her second team all mountains west honors. This was her second
time in a row. With a 76.41 averaging stroke, she finished third on the junior squad. Came 10th
at the MW championship. Was a top finisher for San Diego state university at the Peg Barnard
Invitational. Was a contributing member when aztecs won their lone team title of the season.
She also participated in the postseason play at the NCAA west regional championship for a
second straight season. Finishing at 75th.
Now her professional performance is something that has a varied history in different golfing
platforms. This might be because of her polarizing relationship with various golfing federations.
So I will only present the information that seems to be popular with multiple golfing sites.
Due to her social media boom She was invited to the December's Omega Dubai ladies classic
which is a ladies european tour. Although she lost, the event helped her gain a sponsorship
deal.
As a Limited Pro
She made her professional debut in the Cactus Tour held at the Las Colinas Club in Queen
creek. Her performance was pretty decent. Beating Hannah O’Sullivan in her third start.
She finished 9th at th stallion mountain, 17th at the aliante golf club, 7th place finish at walnut
creek and had the opportunity to play at the scottish opening the LET.
She competed in the CoBank Colorado Women's Open and finished at night place with an
earning of $1,750
Another notable professional appearance was in 2016 when she appeared in Arizona Women's
open. She finished the event in 30th position.
Now it was about time for Paige to earn her card for the LPGA. and she tried in 2016 right after
her second european tour but sadly she couldn't get qualified for the ticket..
Although Paige was still young and had a massive time to learn and improve her skills. But She
chose to leave the sport entirely. After failing to qualify for the LPGA a couple of times, Paige
believed that she wasn't mentally strong enough.
In a Q/A video for her fans, she finally talked about why she couldn't go pro and retired.
“For me, it was never physical ability. It was always mental, I think it has gone better now that I
just play it for fun, That’s why my game is even better than when I was playing pro.”
Paige's life completely changed after the athlete started posting images and videos on the
internet. She used her golf talents and created videos of her doing trickshots and uploaded
them online. She quickly grew an audience and everyday found herself thousands of followers.
This helped her get sponsorship deals and gave her a sigh of relief of not continuing a career in
pro golf.
Although her online presence always seems to spark controversies regarding the sexualization
of golf. As it is quite known to everyone that LGPA has a strict dress code and anyone who
doesn't follow it cannot participate.
Now I don't think that what Paige does to tackle the rules of the LPGA is fair. Although her
words and actions against the rules have embarked both positive and negative attention
towards her.
Manycurrent and retired players criticized her for her behavior…. and the online hate is just
horrifying.
Along with her social media profiles, Paige has recently started a podcast where she is very
open about the several issues regarding the sports.
For better or worse, Paige gave plenty of spotlight to the sport of golf, something that has been
difficult with golf for many decades. And looking at this trend of golf in social media, we now
know that it can be as entertaining as anything.
I think that the unwanted hate towards the individual is quite bad and the media sites play a big
part in that. I say this because wHenever you search Paige Spiranac on google the first news
stories that come out are quite horrible.
Something that shouldn't bother the athlete and nor should she respond to.
Conclusion
Paige Spiranac has found a fine career after golf. Thousands of athletes can't make it into the
professional circuit once their college year ends and it gets even difficult for them to adapt to a
different career. I believe that Paige is an inspiration for them all.
