(ENG) The Analysis of Shoot
The Analysis of Shoot (Shaw and Root from the Series Person of Interest)
The analysis of Root and Shaw relationship based on Clinical Psychology, Philosophy of Human, and Psychology of Personality classes, which I can manage to remember (stay focused in class is hard, guys).
So, Root is not a sociopath (I think she’s an anti-social but not a sociopath) and Sameen Shaw is a sociopath. Root has some kind of crush with Shaw, maybe it’s because Shaw is a sociopath and Root is not a sociopath but she wishes that she is a sociopath. My Professor said in Alain Badiou’s theory, there are two kinds of love, Having and Being. Having is when we love someone because that person has what we didn’t have. Being is when we love someone and we don’t have any reason for it, just love that person.
In the early season of Root and Shaw, I thought that Root is Having Love, not Being in love with Shaw because, well, Shaw has what Root doesn’t have, life as a sociopath. If Shaw is a sociopath, why did she kiss Root before she sacrificed her own life? Because only Bear the Dog can accept her for who she is and Root and Team Machine has Bear, plus, Root is good-looking and good with guns. I think Shaw is a bit narcissistic because she likes someone who pretty much like herself.
The come the fifth season. I see them change. Root’s love for Shaw is not Having anymore, but Being, because she just want to be with Shaw and Shaw is not that narcissistic, she cares. Both of them are being in love for each other, why? Because they only want to be with each other. When Root’s reunion with Shaw, she didn’t kiss Shaw like other fictional characters’ reunion in other TV Series (kiss, then straight to bed and have hot sex), Root didn’t care about her lust anymore, she only wants Shaw. And Shaw, after Root’s death, she’s happy to hear Root’s voice again. Well, shock at first but then happy because she smiles in the end.
