The horrifying reasons why your writing sucks
The Horrifying reasons why your
writing sucks
#3 applies to almost everyone
Here’s the new year. We’re almost done with the first week. But,
nothing’s changed, you know. The websites you visit are probably
the same. The same old habits. You breathe the same old air, and I
guess, you may eat the same junk food.
For some, the new year brings resolutions. They start a diet or hit
the gym. For others, it’s just a coping mechanism to start a new goal
every other week. They set goals and work on it the first few weeks.
But, a couple of days later, they quit. And they quit it like they’ve
never started it before. For writers like you and me, the new year
can be a bit challenging. New milestones. New goals. And new
challenges.
In the midst of all these, one thing you may have missed: your
writing. Every year, as it passes by, I contemplate my writing style
and make certain improvements.
While this may look like self-judgement, it’s not. Instead, it’s
analyzing your writing style and improving it to become a better
writer. That’s how I learned English as a second language. That’s
how I learned to write by myself. And that’s how I started my
journey as a freelance writer.
If you think your writing sucks, it may be because of the following
reasons.
You’re a freaking overthinker:
Writers have a knack for thinking. That’s how they come up with
brilliant ideas. But, for some of us, this habit of thinking takes place
more than a billion times, making us an overthinker.
If you’re this type of writer, you’re almost close to quitting this page.
Still, you read it. Oh, the old habit of overthinking. You overanalyze
your decisions. You change your words and sentences, probably
more than a trillion times. If not for all this, you also delete your old
published piece.
Make this year one of the most productive years of your writing
career. Stop overthinking. Stop overanalyzing. Write and publish.
Keep it how it is. Because, as you may know, at the end of the day,
all that happens is your writing improves.
You write inhumanly that reads like a dead zombie:
This year has to be the one, where I improve my inhuman writing
style. My writing is good, but it’s not the best, I know. It’s because I
write inhumanly.
Like me, you may be the one with this writing disorder. You write
mundane sentences. It’s not structured. And, at last, it doesn’t even
consider the feelings of the readers.
One thing that I’ve learned after writing for this long is, you don’t
write for yourself. I’m sure you can. You’re more than welcomed to.
But if you’re a content writer or a copywriter, the ones who write
words for their clients to make a living, you don’t write for yourself.
In fact, you don’t even write for your clients.
The truth is, you write for their readers. Every word you use in your
article has to be about and for the readers; their feelings and
emotions as well. Otherwise, it’s a fad.
You’re a psychopathic liar:
Okay, this has to be at the top of the list. But, anyways, it’s here, and
it’s true. Being a liar hardly has any benefits to it. If it does, well, a
psychopath will set you up for that.
As a writer, if your writing sucks, it may be because you’re a liar.
Okay, let me explain.
It has nothing to do with cheating your girlfriend or going out with
your homies without asking your parents, if you’re under 18.
The thing is, you lie and cheat your readers. Your articles are a
bunch of self-agonized false statements, and self-proclaimed
personal development stories — lessons that don’t help anyone, let
alone be something of value. A self made case study, or an article
written without proper research and study.
If that’s you, you’re a liar — a liar of words. And I don’t know about
others, but if you want to become a better writer, and make your
writings good, better not lie again in your articles.
That’s it for today..
