H.S Speech
A poem by r.m Drake. “This life, all that we are. Everyday we are closer to our doom, and somewhere between life and death we must find the space of all that makes us special.” Trying to find practical advice in this little poem, I’ve come to realize that day by day nothing seems to change, but when you look back everything’s changed.
We never know what’s going to happen next. Eight months from now we’re going to be ‘unemployed’ as they say, but looking back, how will we feel about these final high school months knowing that we could never go back and do it again? Will we look back with pride and satisfaction, or will we look back with pain and regret?
Many in this school have come and gone; some have dared to dream and have went on to greatness, whilst others well, ‘served their sentences’. The question that each one of us here need to ask ourselves is: ‘how do we want to remember this place?. ’ Do we want to remember this place as something dreadful or a place of opportunity? A place where we could dare to dream, but not just dream no, a place where everlasting bonds of love and friendship were forged?
You see, r.m Drake was hinting at something special, he pointed out that the space or time is our life we have before death and it should be filled with great moments, precious moments and therefore I charge each one of you' here with a responsibility, the responsibility to chase your hopes and dreams, to pursue all that makes you special, to make each moment count. In life, in love and in laughter.
