The Lost Years Project website project
PROJECT: The Lost Years Project
TYPE: WordPress based Presentation/Blog website
SUMMARY:
This website started off as static HTML website. While using the same theme and look, the owner
wanted the website converted to a dynamic CMS based website.
The platform chosen was WordPress. Based on the theme’s original design and look, there wasn’t much
more to do. The theme’s original designer had done a pretty good job in developing and building a
complete website – including presentation pages, the blog pages, contact page and so forth.
The theme’s included CSS stylesheet made it fairly easy to convert the original HTML theme into a
WordPress based theme. Initially, all we needed to do was to create the required pages as per
WordPress’s CODEX recommendations. This we did.
The next and hardest part was creating and putting together the upgraded theme’s functions.php page.
This is the page where the site is literally “pulled” together and gives it much of its functionality.
After this, we needed to either employ several “off-the-shelf” plugins or, to create our own – this to give
up some back-end functionality.
Once we had the WordPress framework up and running, the next thing was to populate the theme with
the owner’s content.
Once done, we now have what we have. The site can be viewed at this link: https://lostyears.argent.photos
In extending this theme and project further, we are now in the process of adding a shopping cart. This
shopping card will be based on the Woocommerce plugin. These part of the brief will include
developing and putting together product content, setting payment gateways and modifying various
pages related to the sales, checkout and follow up processes.
