MEET THE HEAVEN FOR BIBLIOPHILE ON EARTH: THIS NEW LIBRARY WILL TAKE YOUR BREATH AWAY
When you hear the word library, the first thing that crosses your mind is a picture of some wooden, old and dusty place, with monotone bookshelves and boring workers. Well, take a look at this futuristic new build.
The newly opened library in China attracts the bookworms and motivates even the nonreaders to jump from their beds and go to the town Tianjin, where this gorgeous library is placed.
This library got the name “The Eye of Binhai”. It is designed by Dutch design firm MVRDV in collaboration with the Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute (TUPDI) and it took for them three years to complete the project. According to them, “The building acts not only as an education centre but as a connector from the park into the cultural district. An oval opening punctured through the building is propped open by the Eye, a mirrored sphere with an auditorium, which takes the main stage within the atrium and enlarges the perceived space within.”
“The Eye is the centre of the library,” MVRDV co-founder Winy Maas said. “It hollows out the building and creates, out of bookshelves, an environment to sit, to read, to hang out, to climb and to access, to create an organic social space. In its heart is the auditorium which mirrors the environment, giving a 360-degree panorama of the space inside; a truly reflective and pensive environment.”
This incredible structure covers 34 000 square meters and has up to 1.2 million books (yes, million). It has five levels where you can find reading area for children and elderly, cultural complex, books and lounge area, computer rooms, audio rooms and meeting rooms.
We hope this will be a great inspiration for everyone to develop greater love for books.
