Singapore mourns as Mrs. Koh Sok Hiong, the wife of the late ex-president’s wife Dr. Wee Kim Wee passes away last July 7, 2018 at the age of 102, due to breathing difficulty according to Ms. Wee Eng Hwa her daughter . It has been recalled that prior to recent condition of Mrs. Wee, she suffered from stroke in 2015 where she had been wheel chaired for years. Remembered as a supportive woman to her husband, a loving mother to her children and a great first lady of the country, Mrs. Wee left her noble memories to all the people which she had touch lives including Singapore’s President Hamilah Yacob who have felt “deeply saddened” with the news . Mrs. Wee is also known for her admirable talent in cooking which fortunately the daughter Ms. Wee have been able to put in a book all the legendary recipe of her mother. The remains of Mrs. Wee were brought to Mandai Crematorium where it had laid to rest.

Last July 9, 2018, two Sri Lanka nationals were arrested at the Changi Airport for identity fraud case, after they used fake UK passports to fly to London. Based on reports, Nagamany Kangatharan, 46, and Kandasamy Niththiyananthan, 27 was held by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) who flew all the way from Colombo to Singapore using their Sri Lanka passports and then met this certain Ihsan Ismie Bin Ishak in SInagpore, a Malaysian agent to give them the forged UK passports. According to the investigation, counterfeited passports will be used by these people to enter UK and seek employment. The three men were charged eight months of imprisonment for using fake travel documents.

It has been nine vigorous years since Xing Fulian, 56 and a resident of Cashew District was acclaimed as the leader of Cashew Integration & Naturalisation Champions in 2009. Xing is a very active member of District Citizenship Advisory Committee, whose aim is to provide activities and programs for new immigrants to recognize local cultures and lifestyles so that they can neutrally blend in to the society. As of today, Xing Fulian and the committee is still actively supporting and guiding new immigrants with the community integration.

An Article published by Strait Times discusses the call of Manpower Minister Josephine Teo on business transformation and generate more jobs for the people. According to Minister Teo on her inaugural May Day speech last April 29, although they have been sighting improvements in terms of business and economy, still the government and other business partners and employers, and also unions should put more effort to attract investors to come to the country. Business and other related sectors should strengthen their approach and structure to continuously improve the business economy as well as the manpower demand in the country.
