Flying Drone Delivery Project
Revision No. 0
February 14th, 2021.
Purpose:
The purpose of the project is to build a pilot delivery system based on drones that
will serve as both a breaking/innovative point and new way to continue with
Wilmont’s vast catalogue of effective practices and businesses. This will be done
by adapting existent technology to the company’s requirements and previously
established requirements.
Project Goals:
The project will work as an induction for Wilmont’s Pharmacy to include a new
and innovative way of delivering their products. It is a pilot project that will be
implemented in four stores in the San Francisco Area initially, in order to evaluate
its viability and implement it in other areas/zones.
As part of the project, an adaptation of DroneTech’s drone piloting plans,
operational systems and business procedures is required in order to satisfy
Wilmont’s needs and requirements.
Some considerations have to be taken in account in order to deliver the
prescriptions successfully. One of them is that some products are sensible/prone
to temperature effects, and many of them are delicate. Due to this, the drones
have to be equipped with both cushioning and temperature systems in order to
guarantee a successful delivery.
Even though DroneTech counts with an efficient delivery system, it requires some
modifications that were requested by the company. These include the ability of
allowing the customers to choose if they’d like to receive their products via drone
delivery. The request has to be approved by Wilmont’s management team.
The project is estimated to cost US$750,000. It has been requested that the cost
should be as less as possible.
The project is expected to begin at January 5th , and the first test flight has to be
done by November 30th .
Project Scope Description:
The project scope includes the following actions:
• Product Scope
DroneTech will be in charge of customizing their existing systems in order to
satisfy Wilmont’s needs and requirements.
The company will also implement new systems and technologies in order to
assure a satisfying and excellent delivery of certain products provided by
Wilmont’s Pharmacy. These implementations include a new cushioning system
for protection objectives and a new temperature-controlling system.
In order to develop said systems, each one will follow a similar step-by-step
procedure that includes main conception and design, building, testing and
implementation. Each one of these processes must be approved and evaluated
in order to accomplish the standards required and avoid mistakes by applying
immediate action in case an error/fault is presented.
• Service Scope
DroneTech will be in charge of the drone’s piloting and product delivery
processes. The company will also ensure (in collaboration with Wilmont’s teams),
the creation of a new communication interface about the delivery process to
Wilmont’s customers via different channels (such as email, online, mobile alerts,
etc.), via customer request and management approval.
Primary Deliverables:
The following items/objectives/actions will be considered as deliverables for the
project:
•
-
Products to be delivered:
New drone and customer order system design.
New bagging and cushioning system
New prototype model
•
Services to be delivered:
-
Efficiency in fund management and collaborative environment between
the entities involved.
Customer and company’s approval of hardware and system
modifications for the project.
-
Deliverable Acceptance Criteria:
The criteria in order to declare the project as successful has been delimited
according to the deliverables required as follows:
-
Cost of the project and the collaborative actions/activities meet the
requested criteria.
The design created accomplishes the specs previously detailed.
Testing results of bagging and cushioning systems are declared as
satisfactory and successful.
The prototype built accomplishes the specs and needs required by the
company.
Excellent completion of first orders and positive feedback by the clients.
Key Milestones:
It should be taken in account that the project should begin on January 5th and end
on November 30th.
The pilot project will ensure completion by following the milestones below:
-
Successful agreement/contract signing between entities involved.
Approval of design/conception of drones.
Approval of design/conception of cushioning and temperature systems.
Approval of design/conception of customer order modifications.
Successful testing of prototypes.
Approval of prototypes.
Successful first deliveries requested.
Positive feedback received via surveys.
Constraints:
The pilot project is tied to the following constraints:
-
The personnel working on the project is unsure of the cost.
Despite having an assigned budget, it has been requested that the
project’s total cost should be as less as possible.
Before the beginning of the project, all of the agreements and the contracts
between the entities involved have to be concluded successfully.
Part of the staff will be paid according to an hourly rate.
The pilot project must begin on January 5th and end on November 30th.
Assumptions:
The pilot project is tied to the following assumptions:
-
The personnel involved in the project counts with the capabilities required
to execute their tasks successfully.
DroneTech will be in charge of handling drone-related operations and
establish the requirements for the delivery process.
Harsh weather conditions will not be presented during the course of the
project.
Wilmont’s is able to accommodate the operating system to their
infrastructure that handles customer orders.
Scope Exclusions:
-
The pilot project doesn’t include storage or use of the prototype/pilot units
after testing and first delivery processes.
The pilot project doesn’t include references on how it could become a fullfledge project in case of it being successful.
The pilot project will not include alternatives to customers living in
apartments.
Reference Documents:
The following documents will be used as references for the project
-
Previous documentation of drone delivery projects.
Documentation about Wilmont’s business and delivery procedures.
Documentation about DroneTech’s business and delivery procedures.
