TED TALK- Richard St. John's 8 secrets of success
This is really a two-hour presentation, I give the high school students cut down the 3 minutes.
And all started one day on the plane on my way to teds 7 years ago and the seat next to you is a high school student teenager, and she came from a really poor family and the wards to make something in her life, and she asks me a simple little question.
She said, what needs to succeed? And I thought really bad because I couldn’t give her a good answer. So I get up the plane and I come to ted and I think “cheese”. I’m in the middle of the room of successful people. So I wanna ask, of what helps them to succeed and pass it on to kids.
So here we are 7years, 500-year interview later, I’m gonna tell what really need to succeed and makes tends to stake.
And the first thing is Passion. Freeman Thomas assigns driven by my passion. Tester do it for the love they don’t do it for money.
Carol Colleta says I would pay someone to do what I do, near to think the thing is to do it for love the money comes them anyway.
Work, Rupert Murdoch, said the nearest all hard work nothing comes easily but I have a lot of fun.
To do so, Fun? Rupert, Yes, tester do have fun working in and I work hard I forget alcoholics they work a frolics. Good.
Alex Garden says, to be successful put your nose down in something and get damn good at it. There’s no magic. It’s practice, practice, practice.
And its Focus, Norman Jewison said to me I think I have all to do were focusing yourself on one thing.
And Push, David Gallo says push yourself, this a clean manually you got a push, push, push. You gotta push your shyness and self-doubt.
Goldie Hawn says I always had self-doubts. I wasn’t good enough, I wasn’t smart enough. I didn’t think I’d make it. Now, it’s now always easy to push yourself that’s why they invented Mothers.
Frank Gehry, Frank Gehry said to me my mother pushed me.
Serve, Sherwin Nuland said it was a privilege to serve as a doctor. Now what kids tell me, they wanna be millionaires. In the first thing, I said to them is Ok, we can’t serve yourself, you got to serve others something of values because that’s the way people really get rich.
Ideas, Teds to go Gates. Says, I had an idea, founding the first micro-computer software company.
I’d say that was a pretty good idea, and there’s no magic to creative me and come up with ideas is just do it in some very simple things and I give lots of evidence.
Persist, Joe Kraus says persistence is the number one reason for our success. You got to persist your failure. You got persist to crap which of course means criticism rejection asshole and pressure.
So the big at the answer to this question is simple. Pay 4 thousand bucks and come to Ted. Or telling that to the 8 things and trust me this is the big 8 things to lead to success. Thank you gesture for all your privileges.
