Music Speaks to the Soul
One of the greatest forms of expression is music. It is said that music expresses
and reveals emotions more than speaking them. Music influences our mood and
amplifies certain feelings that we are currently having. With that said, movies are never
great without their music companion. The scoring can either make or break a movie's
success. And in the film The Fault in Our Stars, its beautifully curated soundtrack
definitely made the movie better than it already was.
With a simple yet special plot, The Fault in Our Stars was a massive hit not only
because of its noteworthy lines and memorable casts but also because of its beautiful
music. High-profile artists like Ed Sheeran, Birdy, and Kodaline were among the singers
included in the list of said soundtracks. There are certain songs that will get stuck in
your head because those songs depicted the movie scenes excellently. One example is
when Let Me In by Grouplove played at the scene where Hazel was permitted to travel
to Amsterdam and Augustus Waters arrived at her place in a Limo. The excitement was
perfectly conveyed because of the music. Season Kent, the music supervisor for the
movie, said that they needed original songs for certain scenes in the movie and this
song was written just for this specific scene and it was immaculate.

Oblivion by INDIANS was also a substantial addition to the movie soundtrack.
This song cued in when Augustus and Hazel had their first date in Amsterdam and you
could just feel the butterflies in Hazel’s stomach, giddy over that feeling of young love.
The feeling of anticipation of experiencing and doing things for the first time with
someone really special to you. Season Kent wanted to make the audience feel the
magic of this moment, and this song was a perfect fit contrary to its title.
Another noteworthy song is Wait by M83. The peak of the movie starts when this
song was played and as the instrumentals built up, you just get the feeling that
something was about to happen, something big that will turn the story all around.
Not About Angels by Birdy was another song written just for this film, and it was
fitting. In the movie, Augustus and Hazel had an entire conversation about their belief in
God and angels, and this song was smart - it was not about angels, but about "us"
(Season

hold significance to the film's plot, it intensified the sorrow of the scene, and just overall
convey the feelings of grief as it was played in the last part of the movie.
Last but not least is Ed Sheeran's All of the Stars. This song was not in the
movie. It was the end-credits song, and it's a song that perfectly encompasses the
whole movie. It was haunting and emotional, and the lyrics are beautiful. After a film

ends, some people need a moment to grasp what just happened, and this song gives
off the perfect vibe to summarize everything that had just transpired on the screen.
Musical scoring plays a big part in making a scene stand out, and this film has
one of the most memorable soundtracks to date. The Fault in our Stars is not a perfect
movie, it has its flaws and imperfections. Yet, it is arguably one of the most impactful
young adult stories that will leave behind a mark in your heart, and its soundtrack is one
of the reasons why.
