My personal experience as a cryptocurrency trader
Title: My Personal past and present experience as a cryptocurrency trader.
Subtitle: It has been a long journey, but well worth it. Here is my story.
Before I tell you my cryptocurrency story let me introduce myself, my name is Renato
Zamagna. I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, and 20 years ago I left my homeland and
moved to New York City looking for adventure. While living there I was bitten by two bugs,
one was Business and the other was Wine. I wanted to become an expert on both, and a
scholarship at Fontys University of Marketing and Management in the Netherlands opened
the doors to my dream. In 2007 I moved to Amsterdam, and in 2011 I received my
International Business Degree and my Sommelier license. Today I work in the wine import
and export industry as well as for a Taylor as a content writer.
The start of it all
In 2013 I discovered Bitcoin via one of my best friends. We met in college when we took a
computer science class together. If there was someone that I fully trusted when it came to
anything related to computers, programming, and overall technological advancements, it
was him.
He told me about this magic imaginary internet money that would ultimately revolutionize the
world. Theoretically, I found the Bitcoin concept to be indeed revolutionary, and I was
intrigued, but not yet a true believer. It just seemed too good to be true.
Over the following months, my friend became a serious Bitcoin advocate. It took over his life,
and I was a little worried about him and his new found obsession. However, his obsession
was contagious, and I started to read and study everything that I put my eyes on related to
the topic. I truly wanted to believe what I was reading, and my friends “lectures” about the
subject. However, everything seemed to be so against conventional wisdom that it was
difficult for me to take the plunge. I was skeptical.
My transition had begun
By this time it was November 2015. I was living in a relatively large 2 bedroom apartment in
the heart of Amsterdam. I started to rent one of the bedrooms via Airbnb, some very
welcomed disposable income was coming my way, and I thought I could use some of it to
invest in Bitcoin.
My great friend, who was at that time living in London came to visit. This visit marked a total
shift on my interest in cryptocurrencies. He introduced me to another “magic” internet money
called Ethereum. Very soon I found out that Ethereum was much more than a
cryptocurrency, it was a protocol, a completely new concept of financial system, it was a
philosophy more than anything.
I found Ethereum to be much more intriguing than Bitcoin, and that is when I really started to
believe that blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies would shake up the financial
systems as we know it. I was officially curious like never before. Although everything looked
impressive on paper, I still needed some more validation before committing to it. But I was
tempted.
The big crypto lip
By 2016 I have read so much about cryptocurrencies that I thought I could teach a class on
it. It couldn’t be further from the truth. I realized the difference between investing in
cryptocurrencies, and the unbelievable profits that can be made by trading them. I started to
take cryptocurrency trading lessons online, learned how to read charts and perform technical
analysis. I began paying attention to other new and smaller cap cryptos and understanding
their purposes and demands.
By December 2016 I was the proud owner of 1 Bitcoin, I was ready to start trading, and a
price dip in December throughout the cryptocurrency markets signalized the perfect moment
for it. I traded half of my Bitcoin holding for Ethereum, that at that time its price was hovering
around the 8 USD per ETH. This was my first trade and the beginning of a new life.
It was the best move EVER! In 2017 the price of Ethereum grew exponentially, the ICO
phenomenon took off, and I started investing in some of them as well as other smaller and
new cryptos that turned out to be fantastic investment multipliers. With the passing of time, I
found myself more adventurous and more confident in my skills. So much so, that I started
helping friends with their own cryptocurrency adventures. By the end of 2017, my initial
investments had been multiplied 100 times over. I had become a full-fledged cryptocurrency
trader and completely obsessed with it.
Me and cryptocurrencies today
Today I have a broad and healthy crypto portfolio. I have made incredible gains.
Cryptocurrencies have sent me on unforgettable vacations, bought me a car, allowed me to
help less fortunate family members, and so much more.
I also suffered significant losses for not having the cold blood required for anyone who wants
to take part in the crypto trading game.
The volatility of the cryptocurrency markets is mind-blowing, and a trader must understand
the opportunities when prices are at the highest and at the lowest. I learned to conquer my
anxiety and hold on to my coins during downturn trends just to see their prices rise much
more than before.
The most significant event of 2017 related to cryptocurrencies, was to start working for the
cryptocurrency smart trading assistant startup Taylor as a content writer. This opportunity
materialized itself out of thin air. I guess that the law of attraction indeed exists. Another
great friend of mine was working for them as a community manager and asked for my help
writing articles about the company and cryptocurrencies, something I find to be a huge ironic
coincidence. I felt suitable for the job taking into consideration my experience writing articles
about various topics, but the subject of cryptocurrencies and everything related to it was right
up my alley and close to my heart.
On the 5th of November 2017, I received my first salary from Taylor paid in Ethereum, the
same cryptocurrency that started my trading career. It was a huge epiphany, my great friend
who years ago told me about bitcoin and Ethereum was right. Cryptocurrencies are the
future of finance, I am not only living this future in the present, but I am living proof of its
possibilities and benefits. One of them is having the opportunity to work for a company
across the world and getting paid for it without any external interventions or delays.
My advice to anyone interested in getting involved with cryptocurrency trading. Educate
yourself, follow the news, do your own research, don’t take anyone's word as the truth, be
independent but do ask for help, don’t invest more than you can lose, get yourself some cold
blood, and most of all have fun with it.
Oh! Before I go, you might be asking what happened to my Bitcoin pioneer friend. Well, to
put it simply he is the only self made, early 30s millionaire I know. The rest is history.
