The Elusive Ghost Changing Form
This story is based on a true incident. Almost 90 years old, India was not free till that time. There is a
city named Firozabad in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India and there was a village called "Manhi". As
it was the old-time, the population was very small, urbanization was very less in the country, rural
settlements were very large and the population was very small in our village also. There was a
farmer called Jumman Lal who was living with his family there. he used to cultivate his fields and
nurture his family.
As it is well known that the farmers in India get up very early in the morning. Similarly, one day,
Jumman Lal too got up very early in the morning, he was thinking that it is 4:00 morning time but at
that time it was 2:30 midnight and after taking bath and light food, walked towards his fields.
(Because of the old times, In that village, people usually did not have a watch, they used to wake up
according to the cock's echoing (voice) and the cock's echoing time was not fixed, there was only a
guess. Similarly, Juman Lal, thinking that it was morning and got up in the middle of the night).
As he reached the halfway point, he saw that a GOAT CHILD was lying on the way. he took pity on
the child and picked it up in the dock. After walking for a while, the farmer realized that the goat's
child feeling a bit heavy, he ignored the fact and held it with the other hand. After walking away from
some more, he felt that the child had become much heavier, there was a little doubt in his mind but
then thought that it might be my illusion and grabbed the kid of the goat with the other hand and
started walking but after passing a little way, he felt that the child is feeling much heavier and his
head baffled what is happening to the goat. Why is it becoming heavy again and again or is it my
delusion, but still there was no negative thought in his mind that this may be a ghost and he
grabbed the goat child with both hands and started walking forward, he must have walked a few
steps only that he realized it looked too heavy and he was going to sweat while picking it up, then his
suspicion was transformed into believing that it must be a phantom soul or a ghost that has come
on my way and I took it up in my lap.
But that sensible farmer did not let the fear on his face and seeing the opportunity; he slammed the
ghost on the ground very loudly and kept looking forward without turning back and the voice came
from behind, a strange scary voice, O farmer, you turned out to be very clever, who recognized me
and is not looking back. if for a little bit longer, you would kept me in your lap, I would have killed you
and made you a ghost like me. But the clever farmer had not given him any answer, he remembered
god and continued on his path, but in the future he did not make such a mistake again.
