5 Common Pregnancy Discomforts
The news of pregnancy normally comes with a lot of joy for a couple, especially if it was
planned. Sometimes these pregnancies come with some hiccups which cause irritations and
discomforts. Here are some of the common pregnancy discomforts:
1. Morning sickness
This is a feeling of nausea during pregnancy, though it can occur anytime of the day. The best
remedy to this is to steer clear of any smell or food that gives you nausea. Eat small portions of
meals but frequently, also eat those foods that you crave for but should be healthy and balanced
meals. Taking vitamin B6 supplements have been proven to help reduce the discomfort of
morning sickness.
2. Heartburn
This is a burning sensation in the chest. It is normally caused by acid reflux which comes as a
result of hormonal changes and the growing baby which exerts pressure on the stomach, causing
the stomach acid to move up towards the esophagus. Try these options to minimize heartburn:
Try to eat small portions of meals frequently
Avoid eating close to bed time
Take a lot of water.
Avoid fatty and spicy food.
3. Constipation
During pregnancy, digestion normally slows down. This happens due to hormonal
changes and the pressure exerted by the growing uterus. To help manage this you should:
Take a lot of water
Ensure there is fiber in your diet
Take regular exercises
4. Backache
Backache normally comes during the second and third trimester of pregnancy. This is as a result
of the grown baby weight causing the change of posture which in turn strains the back. You can
reduce backaches by avoiding heavy work and taking enough rest. You should avoid lifting
heavy weights.
5. Fatigue
Nearly all women experience fatigue during the first and third trimester. Fatigue in first trimester
is as a result of the large amount of energy needed for the development of the baby. Fatigue in
third trimester is because of the weight gain that you have to carry. You should take enough rest.
