Case Study: Improving Payroll Accuracy Through Worker Logs
At West Africa Energy (Solous MRF), I supported payroll processing for over 50 factory
workers between November 2024 and June 2025.
Problem:
Payroll delays and frequent errors occurred due to inconsistent daily worker logs, leading
to complaints and repeated rework.
Actions Taken:
Designed a simple worker log template to capture daily output
Cross-checked logs with supervisors before payroll processing
Built an Excel payroll sheet with automated calculations
Uploaded verified payroll data into Xero for proper record-keeping
Introduced a three-step approval process (logs
payroll sheet
supervisor sign-off)
Outcome:
Payroll accuracy improved significantly, processing became timely, and worker complaints
were eliminated.

Below is a sample (dummy data) of a factory workers’ log, similar to the files I created while
working at SOLOUS MRF.
This spreadsheet is designed to monitor the daily output of workers across different
sections. In Section A, employees earn ₦20 per kg, while in Section B, the rate is ₦30 per
kg. The sheet does more than record the quantity of work completed ,it also
automatically estimates the total pay due based on performance.
In addition, it helps track daily attendance (present vs. absent staff) and provides
insight into each worker’s efficiency, highlighting both strengths and areas for
improvement.
Here is an example of
a payroll processed
using the dummy
factory log from the
previous slide.
This demonstrates how raw worker data is converted into accurate pay
calculations, ensuring fairness, efficiency, and timely payments.
