The premise of the game is extremely simple; you launch a series of projectiles at the coloured bubbles moving down your screen in an attempt to group ones of the same colour together, thereby eliminating them. When you burst the bubble containing the key, you will advance to the next level. The game is available to download for £0.69, and is compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. The operating system required is iOS 3.0 or later. It is only available in English, but as there is very little to read within the game, this is highly unlikely to cause a problem. As you progress through the levels, the game becomes gradually more difficult. You will encounter bubbles that change colour when they are hit with a projectile, a variety of bubble textures that may have an impact on how they react, and other surprise features. This is an easy game to grasp, but potentially a very hard one to complete, due to the increasing level of difficulty as you progress. A recent update to Bubble Bust has added thirty-five achievements for you to try and complete, along with a “Game Center Leaderboard”. Over three million people have downloaded the game, making it the iStore’s top selling bubble bursting game (and yes, there are actually quite a few out there). The game currently has ninety levels, and has introduced power-up features to help you work your way through some of the more difficult stages. Bubble Bust would seem to be one of those games that can be incredibly frustrating as you repeat levels multiple times in an attempt to advance, but it is also extremely addictive. For such a simple game, the developers GameOn have put a lot of effort into the graphics and gameplay. The bubbles are surprisingly detailed, even down to the wobbling that occurs when a neighbouring bubble is hit by one of your projectiles. The projectiles also behave as you want them to, which can frequently be a problem with this sort of game. With GameOn making frequent updates, which add more levels to the game, this is likely to hold you interest for quite a while. Overall, Bubble Bust is a well-designed, well made game that is simple to play, will keep you entertained for hours, and is an absolute pleasure to look at.
