Facts you need to know about knowledge and its components
Our civilization and exposure are driven by the amount of knowledge we are exposed to, what we know and the usage of these information in our daily activities is what has made our world become better today. Knowledge helps us innovate and grow rapidly; ignorance is a limitation to development.
Our competencies and behaviors are determined by the knowledge we have. In philosophy, "Knowledge" is simply “justified true belief" but our usage of knowledge components consists of both incorrect knowledge and implicit knowledge. Knowledge acquired through education is considered basic facts according to the 1st level of Bloom’s (1956) taxonomy which contains components like procedures, schemas integration, Metacognitive skills, and complex reasoning strategies. (Levels of Bloom’s taxonomy)
What do you understand by the word “Knowledge”?
Defining knowledge may likely come with mixed feelings because knowledge is not a straight line, your definition of knowledge may likely defer to that of another person, but there are some components that are expected to be constant in any kind of definition you come up with. But the general definition of knowledge states that “Knowledge is a practical or theoretical comprehension of a subject”. Knowledge can also be seen as understanding a thing based on facts, skills, information acquired through education or experience by discovering or through learning. Another generally acceptable definition states that knowledge is human exposure emanating from interpreted information, comprehension that grows out of a combination of data, logic, facts, and experience.
The purpose of knowledge
We do not acquire knowledge just to stay in our memory, rather knowledge is acquired for the sole purpose of preparing for eventualities, solving yesterday’s ignorance and tomorrow’s uncertainties. Scientists are up and running every day, experimenting and testing various methods or options in other to come up with new ways of doing things in a more efficient way as humans. There are issues all over the world that needs solutions, but because our knowledge base as humans haven’t expanded to the stage of finding solutions to these issues, experts in various fields all over the world spend time, efforts and resources seeking ways to provide these solutions.
Any new solution gained adds to our knowledge as humans which in turn help us to be more in charge of our environments and existence.
For knowledge to be complete, it must contain some body parts (Components), else it cannot be said to be knowledge. We will treat these components one by one.
Integrative knowledge
A procedure that connects other components of knowledge
Interest and beliefs
Your interest and beliefs are components of knowledge, what you like, what you subscribe to, what you find amusing can influence your mental capacity of knowledge. It becomes one of the foundations of your overall knowledge.
Metacognitive knowledge

Domain knowledge
When we talk about domain knowledge, we are talking about rules, principles, facts, concepts, strategies, and procedures. When these items are put into practice, they form the components of our knowledge. How things are expected to be done, the dos and don’ts, what is to be done, for what purpose and to what extent? The overall results of these combinations become knowledge that is transferable.
