Project Descriptions
Manual conversion of PDF files to MS Word documents (Project 1)
Client's description of the job: "I have 2 Scanned Images or PDF files which I need to have in 2 Microsoft Word documents. Can you please type them out with all the formatting and footer info? Please make sure you’re putting all texts, background color, and formatting accurately as they are on the documents." So, I've got the PDF files, then copied their content to MS Word documents, newly created by me. Part of the job about formatting was sometimes a bit tricky, but I got it and did very well.
Manual conversion of a PDF file to an MS Excel file (Project 2)
Client's description: "I have 1 page with some names and contact details to be entered into a spreadsheet. Either an Excel .CSV or .XLSX file will be fine. I need data entered including Name, Title, Company, Street Address, City, State, ZIP, Phone, Fax, Email, Website. (when information is available on the resource file)" So, I've got the PDF file, then I've created an Excel .xlsx file. I've added fields, required in the description, to columns. Then, row by row, in a short time I've entered the available information, depicted on the PDF file. Problems during the work were negligible.
Creation of a List of Restaurants in a Spreadsheet Using a Website (Project 3)
Client's description of the work: "Use tripadvisor.com website and find and build a list of 20 Restaurants who are good for meetings in New York City.
We need the following information fields in an Excel File or in a Google Spreadsheet:
1. Restaurant Name
2. Website
3. Address
4. Phone Number
5. Email Address and
6. How many reviews they have."
I got an attached Google spreadsheet with a sample entry. The most important thing was that I needed to use filters of the website in order to satisfy the project requirements. I've used "Establishment Type" and "Good for" filters, where I've chosen "Restaurants" and "Business meetings" options, respectively. So, there were no other appropriate filters or options. I've added only numbered restaurants with working websites and emails, which are both given in the "Location and contact" section. That is, I was strict enough in selecting restaurants, in order to be sure that the client would be guaranteed to be able to inspect a restaurant on its website and to contact the establishment. In the end, I've added 20 more entries to the spreadsheet, because the first one was the example, so it may not be counted as a part of my work.
Creation of a List of Running Clubs in a Spreadsheet Using a Website (Project 4)
Client's description: "Please collect 30 run clubs' name, address and emails from the following website - https://www.rrca.org/find-a-running-club. Enter them into a Google Spreadsheet."
I've got a Google Sheets file with an exemplary entry. Then, of course, I went to the website and started to extract necessary data from club pages, which are grouped by state. The main thing was that the website covers not only some parts of the country, but the whole US, and there were no project requirements about club locations. So, I could focus on only 2-3 states, but it would make more sense to collect data evenly throughout the country. Also, on the website, the US is divided into not only states, but also regions. Therefore, I divided 30 by the number of regions, while approximately keeping proportionality to numbers of states in each region. Moreover, I was maintaining uniformity across states by selecting only one club per state. Finally, I've collected information about not 29, but 30 clubs, because the exemplary entry may not be counted.
