Love them, Adore them - Legit! Be annoyed by them!
Zuckerberg created a revolutionary movement in the world - the social networking movement. Facebook, as we all know it, is like a parasite, clinging to every human today. However, the number of advantages Facebook has is innumerable. The world has actually become a smaller place. Be it friends, relatives, work personnel or even our most worshipped celebrities, everyone can be easily accessed through just one click – by logging into our own personal profile.
Marketing Oneself to the Fans?
Every celebrity has his\her fan page on the web. This is the easiest way to come close to the ones who love you. Fans criticize your work, appreciate you, thus help you know better about yourself and boost you up. If a particular fan has liked a page, that is probably because he\she is a fan, and wants to remain updated about their favorite personality. So why act cheesy or as an attention seeker when you already get enough. Let us face facts. Our celebs do annoy us with the most irritating posts on Facebook making use of every marketing strategy, or the trends new on ‘FB’.
5 ways by which fans are annoyed on Facebook –
Posing an unnatural question – asking a question to the fans is legitimate. It engages them in discussions and also helps you know their point of view better, but, why act cheesy and prove oneself to be forcefully involved with the fans? “Which disease do you hate the most?” this is partly offensive, not only will it annoy but will also make one lose his\her fans.
Making a manipulative call to action – the deal is, if you like it “like” the icon, if you do not you could just make a comment on it. This tactic is the most, sleazy one. There should always be a fine line between marketing oneself subtly and making it obvious. “Click like”? Yes, if the fan is a die heart worshipper, he\she would. Yet, that is manipulating enough.
Using the “inspirational quote grab bag” – what are you, some sage? Well if you are, it is justified, but if not, this tactic is not only phony but unnatural. This is not what fans expect. Facebook is not the place to act as an inspirational guide. Thus, it is annoying when they post statuses like – “life is like a box of chocolate, grab your piece.”
The “fill in the blank” – this is like a plot. When the post is relevant, for a product or an industry, fans will appreciate. If not, it is a failure and immensely annoying. Liking should be enough, giving reasons for it is not everyone’s call.
The photo caption – the strategy behind it is never much clear. Why ask fans to caption pictures of one enjoying – dancing at the Tomatina or donning glam at a photo shoot. The fandom is generally happy to see the one they adore, happy! Why annoy them with such posts?
Not updating the fans, maintaining two separate profiles simultaneously, can also be very annoying, as their expectations are never fulfilled.
