Introduction:
Both career and post-academic well-being play a critical role in the life of a man. Career is important due to the fact that it effects on the significant variables such as the essential needs of the man and education is imperative as it intensely shapes a man’s probability of life. Knowing what impacts these variables impose, is utmost essential in tilting the behavior in man’s favor. Major studies conducted in order to investigate the impact of variables influenced heavily on one’s education and career, consequently the researchers found that social anxiety and depression are the most common variables that associate with these segments of life [ CITATION Dev10 \l 1033 ]. However, there has been an exceedingly growing research in this area to explore the extent that how much these variables have affected the man’s life.
The anxiety associated with the test conducted within an academic class generates pressure on the students to the extent that they cannot perform up to their potential (Ricarda Steinmayr, 2016). Besides, the study resulted that the students who feel nervousness while taking the test produce a very low GPA. Another study highlighted the depression, anxiety, social stress and nervousness prevail among the students near the examination (Ali, 2015). Although the focus of the study was Saudi students, the researchers generalized their experiment on the other societies too. The stress created at the high school and university level will lead to the professional career as well. Social fears are also dependent on a particular cultural setting [ CITATION Abd03 \l 1033 ]. The same social attitude may be called as normal in one social setting, whereas excessive and unreasonable in another cultural setting (Asnaani, 2010). This cultural syndrome may affect the career of a person.
Statement of the purpose:
The purpose of this qualitative study is to understand the meaning and effect of depression and social stress in students while taking their education and afterward in their career.
The study follows the qualitative approach for the reason that depression and the social stress cannot be directly attributable to measure in quantitative terms. The study will greatly effect on building a better understanding and eradicating the natural biases during these phases of life. This very phenomenon of interest is the major impetus for choosing this topic in the naturalistic setting.
Research question:
Depression, stress and social anxiety are the major social factors in disturbing the education and the career life of a person.
Association of depression, stress and social anxiety with education and career.
The findings of the World Health Organization (WHO) mental fitness, considered to be an indispensable constituent of health [ CITATION Ali16 \l 1033 ]. A man could be termed depress and under stress if he or she displays a varied composition of mood, absence of interest and pleasure, experiencing guilt, low level of self-esteem, abrupt concentration, anxious sleep and disturbed appetite [ CITATION Rub16 \l 1033 ]. Anxiety more often occurs as a self-regulated arousal, the tension of skeletal muscles, and other situational aspects, whereas stress is more petulant, strenuous and impatience. The American Psychological Association (APA) has described depression, stress and social stress as a feeling of tension, problematic thoughts and physical variations (Bilgel, 2008).
The employment gratification negatively associated with miserable symptoms, with the strength of association being robust for women than men (Arim, 2016). Moreover, depressed students arouse their self-stress when they indulge themselves into a condition where they feel perturbed and hesitated [ CITATION Sar12 \l 1033 ]. Hence, students unable to perform high scores in their educational careers and subsequently, when they enter into their professional career they hesitate to face the difficulties in their offices and most often fail to produce the desired results.
Impact of depression, stress and social anxiety:
Depression, stress and social anxiety are rampant among the teenagers. It disturbs the learning, social work environment, relation to peers and mental health [ CITATION Rub16 \l 1033 ]. These social variables have plenty of resources to guide the teen to deal with the issue in negative terms. Besides, it is important to understand that it is not just the child will snap out of it, but its prerequisites are to deal it with appropriately by the parents too [ CITATION Ste10 \l 1033 ]. A study conducted in Germany has found that the teens who indulged in this kind of problem have a greater impact on their professional career using the MSQOL-54 inventory (Amato, 2001).
Sources of social anxiety and depression in the education and career:
Thousands of studies over the decades strongly revealed that there are various sources of social anxiety and depression in one’s life. No matter the person is a student or a professional, the society imposes certain hitches that the person indulged in the stressful and depressed life (Xiao, 2013). Among the different variables, anxiety, especially the test anxiety in the classroom has been most frequently investigated in the educational career [ CITATION Lau10 \l 1033 ]. In many cases, the mental illness has identified in the shape of depression and stress. Another aspect of getting the depression in the student life is the fear of failure and fretfulness about how the people will perceive if the student will get a low percentage in the exams. As per the conclusions of Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), the children, exposing to mental stress are not capable enough to manage the social stress, potentially affecting one to experience emotionally unstable high school life [ CITATION ADA16 \l 1033 ].
Likewise, there are various reasons for instigating depression, stress and social anxiety in the professional career life. The causes that affect the professional career can vary in different situations, for example, it could be an employee not fit in an appropriate role that the management has conferred upon him, it could be misalignment between the personal values and company, it may be an imbalance in work and lifestyle or financial struggle and feel spellbound among colleagues [ CITATION DrD15 \l 1033 ]. Likewise, bullying at work, improper guidance from the management, irrational demands from the administration, low level of morale and engagement at work and moderate working conditions are some factors behind cultivating the depression, stress and social anxiety in the workplace (Brockway, 2013).
Conclusion:
In the past few decades, our information and consciousness about the stress, depression and social anxiety have been increased many times. Subsequently, clinicians have found approaches to tackle depression in children in schools and afterward. The knowledge of depression has exceedingly increased in parents also. Moreover, additional research is required to discover effective diagnosis and treatment to the patients. The research should also be conducted to ensure that effective treatment is available to every corner of the world. In order to do this, there is a dire need to disseminate the awareness among the masses that how to tackle depression, stress and social anxiety in the educational career as well as the professional career.
