Djibouti is present between the Ethiopia and Eritrea in the Horn of Africa. Djibouti is very small country with tourism of the adventure type. You only need your driving skills and GPS to see its remarkable desert sandy points.
Djibouti City
Exploring the capital of Djibouti is an amazing thing to do there. This capital city is not large enough you only need one hour to walk around and be fascinated by amazing quarters. There are European and the Arab quarters which are adjacent to each other. The French colonialism and Moorish architecture are imprinted on European Quarters of the city. These buildings are colorful and stunning at their times. There are narrow streets with little traffic, people sit on the streets and enjoy tea there. You can observe there that life passes slowly. With a variety of shops there you can buy all sorts of items but there’ve no expectations of international brands. Simply follow the noise of traffic and you’ll reach Place Mahmoud Harbi which is the most iconic building.
Ali Sabieh
Ali Sabieh is situated half away from Djibouti to Lake Abbe, this is the perfect spot for lunch. This town has one of the largest Qat markets in Djibouti. If you want to buy something like qat then you can have it from here, but considering as warning its pretty disgusting. This town has a number of facilities, like schools and main railway station, which makes the town the 2nd largest town of the country.
Ali Sabieh has its own charm and beauty with the domination of African’s landscapes this spot has grey-brown-red colors. When these are looked closely no one can not imagine how much he spends time there. A refugee camp of UN and a few NGO’s is present there. You have to find shadow for protecting yourself from the sun.
Moucha Island
Within 30 minutes ride one can reach calm water and coral islands with limited facilities, people and a lot of turquoise water the beach looks quiet. This place is limited to the total of 20 inhabitants but locals also come here in summer. A new beach club is under construction there by an Ethiopian company which can increase the number of visitors there. As an aspiring tourist walk across the island on the crustaceous sand which looks it has been burnt or baked in an oven. Be aware to wear shoes because there is very hot sand in the morning. You have option to sail motorboat to the side of the island, and relax under umbrellas.
Lake Abbe
The Lake Abbe is surrounded by volcanoes and depressions and basically it is Salt Lake. You can say that it is set of creation of a new ocean. Three plates of Earth’ crusts pulled away and created a thin crust. When it breaks it separates the Horn of Africa into its own Island. The chimneys there were created by Ethiopian Government which decided to build damn here. These mangroves were covered with limestone and bacteria without the water. Bacteria there helps in growth of population of worms, at evening the observation of these creatures through muddy and slippery sand looks awesome.
Lake Assal
The saltiest lake outside of Antarctica is the Lake Assal. Temperature remains extreme highly up to 40 Celsius. This temperature is enough to evaporate the water of the lake but this shortage of water is completed automatically by underground streams. The colors of the lake are green, brown, blue and white which are basically by all the chemicals located in that specific water. You can have options to buy everything from here made up of salt from boat head bones covered in salt and also salt necessary for cooking.
Khat Vendor
I think you’ll be familiar with the name Khat if you’ve visited Yemen ever. This is specific plat which is chewed in Yemen as well as in Djibouti. The life stops at afternoon when everyone has effects of the Khat. This plant is banned in many countries by WHO as it’s considered to be a drug. But in Djibouti you’ll have no trouble in finding this, the vendors will’ve stacks of the bright green leafy plant and is chewed nonstop after lunch time till late at night. In my opinion the plant has horrible taste. The influence of Yemen is as so much that you can try Yemeni fish here. Which is spices well and then cooked in tandoori oven. This Yemeni fish has also left behind marks of Yemen.
