Reasons why you are not getting pregnant
-by Monisha Wamankar
1. Endometriosis- a chronic disorder of the reproductive system
Endometriosis results in the growth of tissue that lines the uterus, in the areas outside it. According to American society for reproductive medicines, up to 30%-50% of women with Endometriosis face infertility. The fallopian tube may get blocked as a result of which eggs might not be able to find their way to the uterus to get fertilized. Painful periods and Pelvic pain during mensuration are the signs of Endometriosis. Intercourse becomes difficult and excruciating. Bowel movements are not smooth, coupled with frequent urination.
2. Poor lifestyle and diet can be the root
Inadequate habits like smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, drug addiction etc. are a vital reason for the reduction in sperm count in males and irregular ovulation in females. Women who smoke go through menopause earlier than women who don’t. Poor diet and nutrition is another cause of infertility amongst many females. Being undernourished troubles in ovulation whereas being overweight affects fertility. Lack of iron can lead to anemia which results in anovulation- lack of ovulation. Anovulation is the cause behind poor egg health which retards pregnancy.
3. Female is not always responsible
Male factor infertility is very common. If your partner is a smoker, heavy drinker, overweight or has been addicted to drugs in past then there are high chances that his fertility might have been reduced. Low sperm count and poor sperm motility account for 30-40% of infertility troubles amongst couples. Male infertility rarely reveals symptoms.
4. Stress will only make it worse
Stress plays a vital role in affecting the hypothalamus functions which regulates the pituitary gland. This gland helps to regulate adrenal, thyroid and ovaries, the lack of which also leads to irregular periods. According to researchers, the women who are indulged in the most hectic jobs are prone most to the danger of not being able to conceive. Emotional disturbances, anxiety, depression, deprivation from sleep, lowers the fertility.
5. Age does matters
The most important factor influencing a woman's chance of getting pregnant is age. As you get older, the quantity and quality of your eggs also get old. A female’s fertility peaks in the early 20s. And then slowly start to decline at about age 31. By 42 the chances of getting pregnant are almost nil.
