Tips for play time with guinea pigs
You have already found out that guinea pigs are sociable and like to play a lot. Yes, but they are not dogs just to walk them outside and give them a stick or a ball.
As guinea pigs are a little bit harder to entertain, here are some tips for play time with guinea pigs.
1). Play with him at the same hour, every day if you don’t want him to get depressed
This might sound weird, don’t you think? Yes, but it seems guinea pigs are like small children who expect to play with them around the same hour. Routine for guinea pigs is essential and this also applies when talking about play time.
2). Hide-and-seek from time to time
This is one of their favourite games so remember to play it once in a while. It’s true, it might be a little bit difficult for you to find him, but you have an advantage: you don’t have to really close your eyes. Treat him as you would treat a child, including talking to him. Your guinea pig will be the happiest pet ever.
3). Make him exercise when playing!
As he likes to seek, smell, hide things, another trick would be to cut him small pieces of apples, carrots, oranges and to hand them on top of the cage with strings. He will see this as a fun game, as a food source and also as a way of exercise a little bit.
4). Add a tunnel inside the cage or in the room
If the room is secured and the guinea pig cannot “escape”, you can make one or more tunnels on the floor too. Use plastic tubes, paper bags, all sort of thing he can use, take and hide in the tunnel. Your guinea pig will love the idea!
5). Take its cage with you, in the house
You wanted a pet, so now it’s time to integrate it in your family. Place its cage in the most active room, it doesn’t matter you have no time to play with him. As long as you are there and talk to him once in a while, he will see this as a game too.
