Speaker 1 :Jon Kabat-Zinn, very good or if you have some touch points on your body like shoulders, forehead, feeling of the breasts and the [unintelligible 00:30:10] , those are going to be good feedback mechanism that will let you know. Right, moving in to the next area of the calls, about negativity, doubts of sabotage. Somebody asked a question, " How do you keep that negative voice in your head from sabotaging your forward motion?" And what I'd like to do is take moment to say that most of the fan of call would consider ourselves positive thinker.
And if as positive thinker you're trying to annihilate negative voices then that's actually being negative. Negating the voices that are in your head. Now my teacher Richard Bandler said, " You don't like the voice in your head, put more in there." [laughs] So I develop Paraliminal technology, the way of putting more positive voices in there. It's not that you're doing fighting with the negative voices, you're just helping to train that voice within you to have new choices or option. So think about what's the positive intent of a voice that's trying to negate?
Just like you as positive thinker and trying to keep negative thoughts out essentially. Positive intention is to protect yourself from something that might harm you in some way. Protecting you from negative thinking. Rather than judging that voice as negative and sabotaging, think of it as security program. If you set a security alarm in your house or in your business, and you set it to motion attack and when you close the door within a few moments, it's going to be armed and ready to go. That means the window opens, somebody comes through, branch falls through the windows. If you lock your cat in and its locking around, somebody walks in the door. Whats going to happen is it's going to trigger that alarm, right?
Then essentially that security program is feeding back information, data about what's going on right now. So when you think about negative voice essentially it starts screaming, " Don't do that, you don't want to get yourself into trouble here. What happens if you do that and you fail?" So all of a sudden you have these positive ideas about forward motion and suddenly you got saboteuring your mind trying to stop you from going forward. Well you notice that the word saboteur and sabotage comes from sabot, a type of a wooden sandal.
What they would do is they would throw the sabot in to the gear work of the factory and they call it sabotage stopping the forward motion, stopping the progress of the factory. So essentially what this protection mechanism, what these security programs are attempting to do is stop you from getting into trouble. So what can you do? First of all, you can change an alarm, to set the alarm threshold for different level. For example, is it a good idea to be afraid of falling off of a big dropoff? Yes. Well, should that alarm go off when you walk up to a window inside of a tall building?
Should you immediately have to panic attack for it? Probably not. What if you have a few response of flying? Is it okay to be afraid of the wing snap off and start to drop it. Yeah, It's a good idea. well, should I always have that alarm going off and on doing this line from here to Chicago? Probably not. So, the notion is we can actually reset this alarm's threshold in the way you do this not by eliminating those negative voices but communicating with that voice in the security program that it represents. In other words, there's a part of you in the space and time that learn something and you told it, " Hey make sure this never ever ever happens again." and it says, " Yes sir, yes mam, i'll make sure anytime we get anywhere near anything like this again i'll find the alarm and i'll make sure sure you get the heck out of there."
Well that happen for me about public speaking. I didn't want to perform in public when I was a little boy so you know, i cry and run out of the room. So when I came time to actually give a speech to 400 doctors in a big conference, that part of me wonder try running out of the room. So it's a matter of updating, it's nice to have a protector in you. It's also important that the protector works in your best interest. So if there's no real and present danger, tell it to stand down, tell it to help you out.
You need to use it's energy to help you succeed at this forward motion you're trying to accomplish. Next question, as something very similar said, "How do you squelch the negative voice in your head that seems to pipe up, which reasons why you can't do something rather than letting you focus on how you're going to do something?" And essentially the technique is called parts integration where you get all those parts of these together that are trying to tell you that you're not prepared, you're not going to be able to succeed at this and you work with them to show them how you can.
The best way to do that is to project on and into future and do a situation in the future when you have truly succeeded. And then look back from that future plan to see how you are you able to do that. So there are number of paraliminals self help one that I created called Auto pilot, automatic pilot actually helps eliminate self-sabotage by training those parts of you, the things that you can do. you want to do , you know how to do it but you're not doing it, that's what is going to help you accomplish that.
The next question was how can we overcome all the doubts that arise when you want to turn your ideas into reality? What if our present self image and negative past experiences don't allow us to believe it's possible to do this. So if you recall when I was talking about present thing, it's very important in order for change to occur that we don't reference the past until we let the future emerge. This is why it's helpful to actually have an image of the emerging future teach us what's necessary. So i'd like to take you through something called the emanation technique which is presented in chapter 1 of the Trap in the Genius book, it's one of the eidetics from Dr. [unintelligible 00:37:51] that i represented here. I'm going to read it to you so if you have something in your own life where you've got a problem which you like to be able to resolve but you haven't been able to act on somehow like in this question. Your present self image, negative past experiences don't allow us to believe in a possibility of something new, then try this out. Select the situation either from the past or in your current life in which you face the problem which you could not resolve.[pause 00:38:32] See yourself in the image and experience the emotion and problem in this image in an intense manner and experience how you are blocked. See the experience in which you are blocked, experience the emotions of the problems in this image in an intense manner and experience how you're blocked. [pause 00:39:07]
Let's now see another self-image jumping out of the first self-image. See how the new image act and how it differs from the previous image and how it resolves the problem.[pause 00:39:33] My first in this experience is like cat in the hat and the next cat jumps out from underneath the hat except that it sort of emanate that jumps out of the first image and then see how the new image acts and how it differs from the previous image and how it resolves the problem.
