Hama Brings Modern Twist to Traditional Japanese Flavors with Sushi Festival
Boracay’s favourite Japanese restaurant introduces creative sushi dishes.
Boracay, Aklan – As Boracay’s top Japanese restaurant, Hama Japanese Cuisine has always been on the cutting edge of rounding out traditional flavors with modern tastes. The establishment’s recent forays into bringing exciting new experiences within familiar flavors have resulted in its Sushi Festival, a selection of sushi creations seen nowhere else in the Philippines. With maki wrapped in avocado and rolls without a single gram of rice, Hama challenges the norms of Japanese cuisine without compromising its distinct personality.
“The food is unmistakably Japanese,” Juan Elizalde, founder of Hama Japanese Cuisine, proudly says, “but with a contemporary twist, so you can always expect something a little more than usual.”
One of the most popular items on the Sushi Festival menu is the Pink Lady, a refreshing kani and cucumber salad wrapped in a delectable slice of fresh raw salmon. The roll is made sans rice, making it an ideal dish for weight-watchers and carb-avoiders. The Okami Mochi Roll, on the other hand, is a scintillating blend of creamy, sweet and savory, topping off an avocado-, shrimp-, and cream cheese-filled roll with a slice of salmon, sweet chili sauce, and black caviar. Diners looking for something sweet to treat their palates with will enjoy the Shiyawase Roll, a maki filled with avocado, kani, and roe topped off with even more avocado for an almost dessert-like dish.
Hama’s Sushi Festival items also play with textures, exploring new ways to enjoy Japanese cuisine. The Oishi Roll, for instance, dips a salmon- and tuna-filled roll into tempura batter and deep-fries it, searing the meat and adding a delightful crunch to every bite. The Vegetable Tempura Roll brings a touch of fun to vegetarian fare, packing flavorful ingredients like asparagus, pickled red cabbage, and Japanese radish into a roll covered in green popped rice.
Diners looking to explore the many different sushi varieties Hama has to offer can check out their Deluxe Sushi Boat, which contains several unique flavors with tried-and-tested favorites like California Maki, Uni Maki, and Ebi Maki.
Hama’s Sushi Festival keeps palates fresh by offering different creations for a limited time. From August 20 to December 31, guests can look forward to sampling the Oishi Roll and the Ippai Roll, a meaty roll filled with ebi tempura and topped with salmon, tuna, and avocado. Rounding out the coming selection is the Fuji Roll, a California maki spiked with spicy tuna and salmon.
