Giyuu x Tanjirou Gay theory The Argument AHHH! Tanjirou and Giyuu… while these two don’t interact often in the anime. Even though they don’t talk much, and certainly never on how much do they mean to each other. Giyuu does not portray himself as a caring guy, in fact, he actively tries to hide it. Or as we call it in anime terms -- Giyuu is a Kuudere A Kuudere refers to a character who is often cold, blunt, and cynical. They may seem very emotionless on the outside, but on the inside, they're very caring — at least when it comes to the ones they love. who is quite shy and does not show his affection through words, but it’s is quite obvious in his actions. (Fast forward highlighted part in 1.5x Speed) As a wise man once said: “True loves lies in the unspoken” Any guess on the identity of the said wise man? Well, It's me of course! haha! (Say abruptly) Moving forward to Tanjiro-- he feels tremendous gratitude and has immense respect for Giyou, but he is oblivious to why would Giyuu does this much for him? The degree of caring attitude Giyuu shows Tamjirou is quite exclusive compared to his interactions with the rest of the characters. It’s like he sees something in him,… something special that only Tanjiro possesses. I think it’s a similar loss they have experienced. Special doesn't equal good ok? It is not explicitly stated in the anime who Giyou has lost, but it’s quite evident that he has been a victim of extreme grief. One can clearly see it in his lifeless eyes. It could be that he turned out his way because there was no one to guide him when he had lost everything, fearing to love again. And like a true hero does not Tanjiro from sharing the same cruel fate that, the fate that holds solitude and despair. The faith he had to endure, he achieves this by sparing and later standing up for Tanjirou’s sister’s life. Tanjiro’s life would have been much sadder if he had not encountered Giyuu when he did. He probably won’t have been able to find a reason to live, because any other demon slayer would have shown no mercy to Nezoko. And remember It was Giyuu who recommended Tanjiro for the sword training. These altruistic actions gave Tanjiro’s life some meaning, essentially allowing Tanjirou to dream big. To get a perspective on how special they both are for each other, let me pose a question: “what kind of people they are when socializing? or more specifically how exactly these anime characters usually interact with the known faces?" In the case of Tanjirou, no matter where he goes People adore him, as seen in the first episode where he travels to a town as a charcoal vendor, and the whole population is drawn to him. And luckily this charisma results in his life being saved, as an old guy insists that he halts his travel at night because of the threat of the daemons that are lurking in the mountains. In a deeper analysis of Tanjiro's social behaviors, I found that he belongs to the ENFJ personality type of the Brigs-Myers type indicator. ENFJs are better known as “the protagonists”, and after hearing that, do you really need more justification? We know ENFJs protagonists are passionate, profoundly empathetic, caring, and warm. Moreover, they are extremely protective of the people they love. Sounds exactly like Tanjirou, right? Now coming to Giyuo….. Well, Giyou is the exact opposite of this, because although he posses a heart of gold which is perfectly pure and tremendously kind, and undoubtedly it’s reflected in his duty. As, all he does is for the betterment of the people, with flawless untainted intentions. Yet, he is unpopular among other characters of the show, as stated by Shinobu “It’s because of these acts everyone hates you, you know?” I mean how selfless can a guy be. And if we see the personality type of Giyou it is ISTJ which also known as the Logistician. They show the Introverted, Observant, Thinking, and Judging personality traits. Logisticians tend to be reserved yet willful, with a rational outlook on life. Furthermore, they compose their actions carefully and carry them out with methodical purpose. Yeah! That’s Giyuu. When you realize the truth behind these characters,….their relationship starts to take a turn for the dark (Queue sad music) The more I truly comprehend their actions the more I realize. It’s not a happy love story at all, on the contrary, it's a tragic one. Where Giyou lives a lonely existence, where no one he knows that truly understands him. Then he finally finds the special some, that is Tanjiro, so he does so much for him purely out of unconditional love expecting nothing in return. And if that’s not true love, I don’t know what is. But the pain doubles down as Tanjiro does not even think about the feelings that might Giyou have, nobody tries to pull him out of the darkness which engulfed him on that cruel day. Tanjiro continues to forge forward leaving Giyou behind. And all Giyuu is a hair-thin string of hope that Tanjiro will return to him after he fulfills his quest to turn Nezoku back to human. (Sad Music End) Whaaat!!? You think I am grasping at straws here? You dare say, I am just a degenerate who adores Yaoi. You dare think I can't help myself from bridging my fantasies to reality through shipping same-sex characters! Well, you are probably right. (Say it in a low volume disappointed manner) Buuttttt!!! Not this time…, because I strongly believe this ship has the potential to become an actual canon. Rejoice my fellow Yaoi lovers, we shall taste victory once more, it been so long since we won the ship-war in the battle of Yuri On Ice. We shall get a chance to celebrate once again, and celebrate we will until the light of dawn. Because I bet my last point,… the final ace up my sleeve will surely melt your critical stone heart, and it shall turn you into a true believer, it will force you to leave your pagan ways behind thus transforming you in a walking advocate with an unshakable belief in Giyuu x Tanjirou. I talked about what kind of characters they are? I mentioned Giyou was a Kuudre. And later I proved the personality type of Tanjiro. Keeping that in the back of your mind, guess which anime couple has this exact combination where one partner is extremely shy and the other one makes friends where ever he goes. And similar to Giyou and Tanjiro they don’t converse much either in their respective anime as well. I will give you a hint: it's a canon heterosexual couple. Plus the guy even has the same Personality type as Tanjirou Now pause the video and think. And the answer is…. Drum roll, please! (Drum rolls sound effect) NARUTO AND HINATA OF COURSE! Still, got doubts? Let’s draw some more parallels 1. Tanjiro is always surrounded by people who like him and the same goes for Naruto towards the latter half of the series. 2. Giyuu arrives in the nick of time when Rui of the lower five is about to end Tanjiro, the same thing has happened when Naruto is fighting Pain. Hinata interferes exactly when Naruto is about to be sent to the kingdom come. 3. Tanjirou gets support from Giyuu even when the whole world is against him, and the same goes for Hinata, because she loved Naruto even when the whole village used to despise his existence.
