Are Actors and Professional Athletes Paid Too Much?
A lot of people thinks that actors and professional athletes are being paid too much. Compared to doctors, teachers, and the military, yes, you can say so, but what is really the basis of salary? My mother has been a teacher for 28 years but her earnings every month is just enough for a family of three. Just like any other teachers around, my mom has a brimful of debt. That statement is a no joke. Well, I am not agitated to share that fact since that owed money from different banks allowed me to finish college from a State University in our town without having too many obstacles. That same reality awakened my mind into a motivation of landing a nice job in the future without the need of borrowing money to survive. Well, teaching is a great profession. In the same way, they are the ones who shape all the other professions on the map, from doctors to social workers.
Moreover, doctors studied for a long-drawn-out time to achieve their goal, yet they receive a salary unjustifiable for their work description. When I was young, I once saw a doctor who was on duty even on a Christmas Day while we were out for our Family Christmas stroll. That time, I thought everyone’s off for their family vacation or party. Now, I realized he’s not the only one and that routine is usual for their profession. For even on the most important holidays, their work demands their presence unfailingly. Not to mention nurses who’re equally keen on service.
Furthermore, the military, who have been jeopardizing their own lives to save lives is priceless. Just like doctors, their profession requires them to be geared up without fail. Have you encountered a teacher who did not attend class to go to a mall and shop? A doctor who declined an emergency call from the hospital just to go to the beach for a summer getaway? Or a military who did not attend to service to party with friends? If yes, then maybe they’re no more in service now.
Actors and professional athletes are free to do these things without compromising anyone or their job, to begin with. That’s the advantage of the career they have. Though, I am fully aware of how they are coping up with their daily grind to entertain people. That’s not an easy job. Let’s face it, not everyone could do that.
I believe there’s no such thing as an easy job and any person who loves what he does or who wish to provide satisfaction to others deserves the pay. I am not underestimating actors and professional athletes by comparing them to teachers, doctors, and militaries. Well, that is pretty like comparing an apple to a banana. One career is entirely different from the other. Still and all, everything requires hard work and perseverance
This write up is not to trivialize anyone. I just wish to have a change in our system. A system that has been perplexing ever since. Rather than basing the salary with the profession or the career someone chose, why not base it on the amount of effort and diligence they are putting up to provide exemplary service? I want to talk on behalf of some underrated career or profession who’re putting the same or even much effort for their service, they deserve more. Everyone deserves an amelioration for that. To end this argument, no, I don’t think actors and professional athletes are paid too much, we are the ones not being paid right.
