Well, I want to share a story with you of a Mom who was able to answer these questions… but not before learning from her mistakes. And her children living through the consequences. But before I get into her story, please allow me to properly introduce myself. My name is Kelly Mayberry, ICI, Director of Brilliance Academy. I’d like to share a story of a Mother who really touched me. Her story made me want to share her experience with you. Her name is Baily Walker. You see, like many mothers she struggled to find a place her two kids. Her daughter Kennedy is 3 and son Adam is 5. Baily planned to be stay-at-home, but because of financial reasons she was forced back to work. So she had to make the tough decision to find a place to take good care of her kids. Unfortunately, she ended up putting them in a daycare center in Carrollton… a place convenient between home and work. Soon after enrolling, she realized their teachers were unqualified. They were on the job putting in time. She would dread She would be at work dropping them off in the morning. Suddenly, she started to notice crying — wondering distressing behavioral changes in her children, especially Kennedy. what was happening to her kids. This emotional roller coaster started to affect her work performance. Baily could tell that Kennedy had been crying. Once she got hit on the head with a book. Another time her face had been scratched by another child. One day she stopped by to pick them up early and watched in total shock as kids jumped up and down on the tables and ran around like wild animals, while the caregiver played games on her cell-phone. Now get this… she angrily told the Director what was going on and how out-of-control the class was. The Director dismissed her like it was normal. Obviously, there was no structure, no real supervision, and no attempt to occupy the children or teach them anything. It was a total zoo. What mother would let this happen to their child? All in all, Baily started to feel really guilty about having her kids there. But in the afternoons, she would often find them upset and withdrawn when she I picked them up. They seemed starved for attention, and were acting up as a result. She was an emotional wreck. She would be at work crying — wondering what was happening to her kids. This emotional roller coaster started to affect her work performance. Finally, she couldn’t take anymore! It wasn’t until her friend told her about Brilliance Academy, that things changed. Skeptical at first, Baily came in for a visit. She grilled me on our teacher qualifications, teacher/students ratio’s, and our educational curriculum. She talked to some of the other moms here. She had several meetings with her child’s teachers. She was determined NOT to make the same mistake twice. In reality, Baily just desperately wanted the best for her son and daughter. Wouldn’t you? So she put her name on the waiting list. And about eight months later, her prayers were answered. Both Kennedy and Adam were accepted! The Difference Was Like Night And Day At the beginning she would call several times a day. She’d even come-by on her lunch breaks. That was totally fine with me. I actually encouraged Baily to drop-by anytime of the day. Now things have changed... Now it’s us calling her… She gets daily progress reports on what Kennedy and Adam did during the day. Plus we also send her email updates telling her exactly how her kids are doing. Then one day she shared a secret with me. With a sense of relief, Baily acclaimed, “Having my kids here feels like a giant weight has fell from my shoulders.” That really intrigued me and I wanted to understand why… I mean, we do have a beautiful facility and a word-class curriculum. But do you know what really gave Baily this sense of relief? It because… Our Teachers Are the “Cream of the Crop” Now, Kennedy absolutely adores her teacher, Mrs. Maha. Baily was a little worried about Kennedy’s development. But Mrs. Maha understood her wicked experience at that daycare. She was patience with Kennedy, gently helping her build self-confidence. She now writes her name and is beginning to read. She speaks clearly in well-developed sentences. And her vocabulary seems to be growing much faster than other kids her age. “Having my kids here feels like a giant weight has feel from my shoulders” It was no shock to Baily, to learn Mrs. Maha has been at Brilliance Academy for 13 years. Adams even solves problems from a grade 2 textbook. Baily is impressed how Mrs. Brand is able to conduct a classroom. She is experiencing how Mrs. Brand has mastered the art of creative learning. The thing is — Mrs. Brand loves to include her parents in the classroom activities. This is how strengthens the relationship with her parents. And guess what? Baily absolutely adores that.
