NARRATIVE REPORT
Semester, AY-
The very lively and observant Sabien always seems to catch the attention of visitors and
teachers alike. He blends in well with anyone around, often answering questions and replying
when spoken to.
Sabien is physically active and adept both in the classroom and out on the playground. He
engages in different play activities by himself and with classmates. Sabien is especially at home
in Outdoor Play, where he frequently plays running zombie and monster games with classmates,
around the grounds and even up playground equipment. He recently tried climbing up the Jungle
Gym in the Big Playground, but later asked to be caried down. He plays football with
classmates and also digs in the sand. He independently does the actions to many class songs.
With regard to fine motor skills, Sabien can use many different writing and drawing
implements in the classroom. He copies upper and lowercase lettering, as evident in class
routines and activities. However, more practice in this area is still advisable, especially in writing
along pad paper lines. He can also draw human figures through a combination of sticks and
shapes. Coloring too is familiar temitory for Sabien, as he colors pictures with the use of crayons
and oil pastel. He may be further encouraged to try coloring in regular strokes as well as in
coloring within lines.
Sabien is equally competent in the self-help domain, as he is capable of doing many of
the tasks with minimal assistance from adults. He can brush his teeth, pack his own things, dress
and undress himself, and can even fasten and unfasten snap-on and regular buttons on his pants
and shirt, although this may be, at times, accompanied by further encouragement from the
teacher.
Sabien demonstrates a variety of socio-emotional skills. He usually starts Workplay
doing his own activity, such as assembling table blocks or puzzle in the Math and Science Area.
He sometimes plays this beside classmates using the same toys, speaks a few words to thenm, but
seldom interacts to create cooperative works. He allows others to take part in his play activities
though at times these are also teacher-initiated, asking Sabien if he can let a certain classmate
join him in play. Sabien is fond of sharing stories with classmates and even teachers. He does so
in routines such as Snack Time and in Mecting Time, where he ias no apprehensions about
shanng his experiences in front of the entire class. He can also follow-up on classmates' stories
with his own related input. Sabien generally follows class rules, especially those cmphasized
repeatedly in class, although he is still reminded from time to time. He is also vocal about his
needs, as he tells his teachers when he needs help with tasks. Despite this, he tends to do most
tasks with minimal assistance. It would be recommendable to challenge him in this aspect, giving
him progressively harder tasks and responsibilities at home and in school.
In the cognitive domain, Sabien quickly integrates new learning into his own ideas during
class. He generally tries to do things by himself, with reference to the given instructions, later on
asking for help when really needed. He is able to read common classroom words and signage,
few times needing prompting with letter sounds. Sabien spcaks primarily in English, but does
understand topics and conversations in Filipino. He frequently demonstrates his counting skill in
class, having been observed to count up to 20 in both languages. Counting with one-to-one
correspondence may still be further practiced, since Sabien sometimes counts more than the
actual number in such activities as attendance check during Meeting Time. It is perhaps also
recommendable to give Sabien more opportunities to speak in Filipino. But given the quick pace
with which he picks up new concepts, Sabien would benefit from being allowed to explore many
different activities.
Sabien indeed shows how he is well-adjusted to the school setting. Whether in the
presence of the teachers or with his classmates and peers from other classes, he seems very much
capable of interacting and enjoying himself
