HOUSE INSULATION
Ever wondered why some households experience huge expenditure on keeping a home at a desirable temperature? Most of us aren’t aware of it and don’t even bother to know the reason. The reason for the expenditure on homes is improper house insulation, according to a survey many households tend to pay a hefty amount for utility bills during extreme temperatures to keep the home at a suitable temperature.
Constructing a house with proper insulation materials or installing a suitable insulation system post-construction can drastically reduce the energy consumption of the house. Taking a look at today’s modern construction techniques, most homes and corporate structures are designed with energy-efficient and effective materials, and no further isolation system is required.
ADVANTAGES OF INSTALLING INSULATION SYSTEM
During extreme weather, the system keeps the interior of the home/building at a balanced temperature reducing excessive energy consumption. For eg. In extreme winters, if a proper insulation system is installed it restricts the heat loss from the house and keeps it warm and vice-versa.
ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY – Use of appliances and other gadgets to keep homes warm or cool leads to emission of carbon dioxide and other carbon components which are harmful to health. Adopting natural methods to keep the home temperature at a desirable state can be eco-friendly and reduce health hazards.
NOISE REDUCTION - It reduces or absorbs the amount of noise that travels throughout the house, keeping home a more comfortable and quiet place. The system absorbs the transmission of noise through walls, ceilings, floors, etc.
PREVENTS MOISTURE - A well-structured insulation system controls moisture which is a most common problem in every house, moreover it leads to algae formation and causes damage to the building materials. Proper installation of the system can prevent such damages.
DISADVANTAGES OF INSULATION SYSTEM
HARMFUL FOR HEALTH - The materials that are used for insulation are harmful to health and mainly affect the lungs and skin when in contact while installation. It should be properly packed and replaced from time to time.
EXPENSIVE – The installation of the insulation system can sometimes burn your pocket as depending upon the insulation material and area of the home to be insulated it can be pretty expensive.
TYPES OF INSULATION MATERIALS
MINERAL WOOL INSULATION - It is similar insulation to fiberglass but mineral wool is easier to install in comparison to fiber one. There are certain pros of installing it, mineral wool can tolerate a temperature of about 1000 C and the home remains soundproof as well. One major disadvantage is that it’s much more expensive in comparison to other materials.
FIBERGLASS INSULATION – It is the most common and affordable form of insulation. There are many reasons for choosing this insulation system because fiberglass is non-flammable and hence it protects the home from fire, it’s easy to install, and also it does not let the house get damaged from moisture.
CELLULOSE INSULATION - It’s an eco-friendly method of insulating the home and the materials used include recycled paper, cardboard, and other materials. These materials are used with chemicals to make them more effective in protecting them from moisture, pests, and heat. Although these materials absorb moisture easily, they should be replaced after a specific time.
