WHY COMMUNICATION SKILLS MORE IMPORTANT THAN TECHNICAL EXPERTISE Let’s start with technical expertise or technical skills, in other words it can be understood as skills related to machines and other complex devices and are practical in nature. Technical skills revolve around knowledge and abilities require to perform a specific activity related to the industry, these skills are not just obtained through formal education but training, internship, practical’s, observation etc. Any individual can acquire technical expertise with formal education and training, but on the counterpart communication skills, which cannot be acquired through training or practical sessions. Communication skills can be defined as the way we communicate our thoughts, questions and answers to the other individual, anyone can express or communicate his thoughts to the other individual but the way of communicating can be either disappointing or satisfying to the other individual. The way one communicates to others can disclose his nature, characteristics, personality and gentleness, these skills aren’t acquired or inherited from genes but are nourished and mastered over time with internal urge to improve oneself. Now, let’s discuss why communication skills are more important than technical expertise. In today’s modern world with the advancement of technology and globalised economy both communication and technical skills play a major role. If an individual is technically skilled but communication skills are unsatisfactory in a particular organisation, he won’t be able to survive in that organisation for a long period. Since, he can do his technical part perfectly but is unable to communicate his work to his superior will get his job in danger. Communication play a major role in one’s life not only at workplace but at each step of our life, it show’s an individual’s calibre, nature, personality and gentleness. Today’s MNC’s are looking individuals with great speaking and communicating abilities as a key to handle worse scenarios in an effective and efficient manner. No one is gifted with such ability but these are nurtured and mastered with time. At the end both skills are important but Communication skills hold a greater influence in one’s life as compared to Technical skills.
