She sits on her wooden bed playing dressup with a large plush panda which looks like a teddy bear. Sue ties a grass skirt around the bear’s waist. SUE Don’t you look sooo cute! Sue then puts on a necklace around the bear. SUE (CONT'D) Wow you look like a princess, Sophie. You just need a crown. SUE (V.O) (CONT'D) I just loved playing dress up with Sophie. Even though she’s a panda, she is my best friend. Sue walks to a table and picks up a paper crown and suddenly we see the panda get off the bed and go to her. Sue places the crown on the Panda. She turns to the camera. SUE (CONT'D) My name is Sue, and I’m from China. FOREST - MANY YEARS AGO 2 We see pandas eating in a clearing. Overhead, a smoking plane flies over them, and goes down half a mile away. 2. SUE (V.O) Believe it or not, my whole family has dedicated their lives to protecting these pandas. We crash landed here ages ago. CUT TO: 3 INT. LIVING ROOM - YEARS LATER - DAY 3 We see a younger Sue peeking around the corner, looking at a treasure chest in the living room. Her panda's face peeks too. SUE (V.O.) My parents loved me a lot, sometimes I felt they were secretive especially about locked treasure chest they hidden away. 4 but so the have INT. SUE'S BEDROOM - DAY 4 Sue and her panda are playing in the bedroom. SOPHIE, the panda still has her crown on. Her Mom, SHA, calls out to Sue from the living Room. SHA (O.C.) Sue it’s time for your math class. We are learning divisions today. Sue lifts Sophie off the bed, and walks into the kitchen. SUE Come on Sophie. Time for school. SUE (V.O.) Mom teaches me everyday from home and I love all my subjects, since mom makes it soooo much fun to learn. CUT TO: 5 INT. KITCHEN- MORNING - MOMENTS LATER 5 The kitchen has a table and chairs made from bamboo, even the cupboards are made from bamboo trees. On the table there is a bowl of berries and a bowl of cocoa beans. 3. SHA Should we count berries or cocoa beans for our math lesson today? SUE (excited) Cocoa beans! Sophie plops into a seat next to Sue, slides a big bowl of cocoa beans in front of her, starts popping them into her mouth. SUE (V.O.) Going to school with a panda meant I had to count fast. Sometimes the lessons were over before they started. We hear A LOUD BELL. DAVID, Sue's father, yells from outside. Hunter’s! DAVID (O.S.) Sue and Sha quickly leap up and run out to the balcony. Sophie the panda also follows them. SUE (V.O.) The bell was our alarm system. Whenever there were hunters in the village, dad rang the bell. Mom ran out and I followed behind her. 6 EXT. BALCONY OF THE TREE HOUSE - CONTINUOUS 6 Sha and Sue look down from the tree house, and they see David holding a long bamboo stick in his hand. DAVID Sha, take Sue inside. SUE Ahaaa… but I want to come too! SHA (Looks at Sue) You know how this goes, Sue. Your dad and I will be back as always. Sha slides down a rope and into David’s arms. SUE (V.O.) My parents protected all pandas in the forest. (MORE) 4. SUE (V.O.) (CONT'D) And I wanted to do the same, so this time, I decided to follow them. Sue slides the rope. CUT TO: 7 EXT. NEXT TO THE RIVER - DAY - 2 HOURS LATER The bamboo forest opens up to expose a natural amphitheater. We see a beautiful crystal river and a waterfall. Sue’s face peeks out from behind the bushes and watches her parents as they tie the hunters in the opening. SUE (V.O.) The forest did a great job of protection with natural defenses, but it wasn't enough. Sue walks backwards and accidentally steps on a stick. SNAP! Both her parents look towards the bushes. SUE As I hid behind the bushes, I accidently stepped on a stick. Sue and Sophie don't move. Her mom holds a stick walking towards the bush. She starts poking the bush with the stick. SUE (V.O) (CONT'D) I tried to duck away from mom’s stick, but eventually she got me and I squealed. SUE (CONT'D) Mom, it’s me! SHA (whispers) Sue! I told you to stay in the house. SUE (whispers) But I wanted to see how you catch the hunters. Her dad pops his head into the bush 7 5. Sue, you You need get very need our DAVID could have gotten hurt. to listen to us. This can dangerous. And our pandas help. SUE Then teach me! What if you get sick or something? Who's gong to help the pandas then? DAVID Sue, it's just too dangerous. Sue holds Sofie her panda to them SUE Sophie's family. Are you saying I shouldn't take care of my family? You take care of me. What if you need me someday, but I'm not ready? Mom and dad look at each other. SUE (V.O.) I was not one to give up, so eventually my parents decided to give me a chance and started training me. CUT TO: 8 EXT. FOREST TRAINING AREA - ONE WEEK LATER- DAY 8 Sue is tying a rope to a log and fixes a net used as a trap, but she keeps getting it wrong and gets frustrated. Several homemade mannequins (stand-in bad guys) populate the area. SUE Errrr! Why can’t I get this right? SHA Patience Sue… Using a long bamboo rod, Sue tries to defend herself from the manikin made from sacks and sticks, but all of a sudden the trap sets of and the manikin goes flying into Sue and she falls back. 6. SUE (V.O) I kept failing at getting it right, but with my parents support I became a pro at setting up traps after a few months. CUT TO: 9 EXT. FOREST - MONTHS LATER 9 The parents have a stopwatch watching Sue as part of a test. Father clicks the watch. GO. DAVID SUE (V.O) I memorized each movement in my mind, and I had practiced so much, my body knew what to do. After a couple of months, the hunters didn't stand a chance. Sue succesfully traps the mannequin with a net. SUE (V.O) (CONT'D) I cut the rope, the net fell and bang! I caught him. Sha stops the watch. SHA (Excited) Wow you even beat us! DAVID Well done Sue! SUE (V.O.) I felt so good about myself finally my parents believed in me and we were a team! CUT TO: 10 INT. LIVING ROOM - THAT NIGHT 10 Sue is playing with Sophie, pouring her tea. The parents walk in, mom hands dad a key and they unlock a chest. 7. SUE (V.O.) After that day, my parents finally showed me what’s in the chest, and I was amazed when they showed me a treasure map. SHA Sue now that you are old enough, I think it’s time we told you how we ended up living here. 11 INT. ANTIQUE SHOP - YEARS EARLIER 11 We see the parents, younger now, in a typically crowded antique store. They pull a map from inside an old vase. Shadowy figures look in through the window from outside. Mom and dad hide the map. DAVID Before you were born, your mom and I owned an antique shop. One day we found this map stuffed into an ancient vase. Some very bad people knew we had it, and they've been looking for it and us for many years. 12 INT. LIVING ROOM - CONTINUOUS Sue looks at the map. SUE Cool!. When are we going on a treasure hunt? DAVID We've been waiting for you to grow up and be strong enough for the hike. SHA We think you're ready. SUE (V.O) I sat gazing at this map, daydreaming about the moment we would finally find the treasure. (MORE) 12 8. SUE (V.O) (CONT'D) I should have known that wherever there's treasure, there's also trouble. CUT TO: 13 INT. SUE’S BEDROOM - LATER THAT NIGHT 13 Sue is sleeping on her bed also made out of bamboo, but it has a mattress and woolen blanket her mom knitted. SUE (V.O) That night, I was startled awake by the warning bell. She gets up and runs out of her room. 14 EXT. TREE HOUSE BALCONY - CONTINUOUS 14 Sha and David stand at the balcony looking down at the pandas below the tree house. SUE (V.O) My parents were standing at the balcony, looking worried. And then I went to see what it was. Sue looks down from the balcony and there are a bunch of Panda’s sitting below, WAILING. *Wailing* PANDAS SUE (V.O) All the pandas were gathered around our tree house, which meant that they were scared. Sha looks at Sue and cups her hand to her face. SHA We really need you to stay here this time. Understand? SUE But you showed me how to get the hunters! I want to help. DAVID This is something else. I've never seen them act this way. You must stay inside. Keep Sophie safe. 9. David slides down the rope first. SUE (V.O) Mom paused for a moment and looked at me with tears in her eyes and blew me a kiss before she left. SHA I love you Sue. CUT TO: 15 INT. TREE HOUSE KITCHEN - NEXT MORNING 15 Sue sits with Sophie at the table. The panda looks worried and so does Sue. SUE (V.O) The next day Sophie and I waited and waited for my parents. But they never came back. The panda pushes her bowel of berries away and puts her head down on the table. SUE (CONT'D) Yeah me too. CUT TO: 16 INT. KITCHEN - MORNING - 7 DAYS LATER 16 Sue sits at the table with her head down on the table. The kitchen's a mess - dirty dishes, open cupboards, crumbs everywhere. She hears a sound, lifts her head and her face lights up. She gets up and runs to the balcony. SUE (V.O.) Days went by and it was just me and Sophie. I was angry and worried at the same time. Why didn’t they come back? All the food we had was gone. Sophie started sniffing for food and suddenly ran out the house. Catching an interesting smell, Sophie runs out the tree house. CUT TO: 10. 17 EXT. THE FOREST- MORNING - MINUTES LATER 17 Sophie runs into the forest and Sue is right behind her. Sophie! SUE Sophie stops and Sue looks around. SUE (CONT'D) What is it girl? Do you smell something? (shouting) Mom! Dad! Sophie sniffs on a piece of jacket, and Sue picks it up and looks at it tearfully. SUE (CONT'D) This is mom’s jacket! (hugs the cloth, crying) Were are you guys? There are VOICES in the forest and Sue gets startled. VOICES *Murmuring* SUE (V.O.) Sophie and I suddenly heard voices. SUE (Wiping her tears) Come on, Sophie we have to hide. Sue quickly hides behind some bushes with Sophie and then a group of strangers appear. A boy, adult man, and a few guards by the look of their military type clothes. SUE (V.O.) They were more hunters. I was wondering how I could trap them and if they had seen my parents when suddenly I spotted this gorgeous boy with features like Hercules. The handsome guy, BENJAMIN, photographs everything with his expensive camera. He moves closer and closer to the bushes. Sue panics and tosses a thorny branch in front of him. He steps on the thorn. 11. SUE (V.O.) (CONT'D) The boy kept taking pictures of the trees and bushes, and then he got closer to where Sophie and I were hiding so I pricked him on his leg with a thorn. Owwwwwww! BENJAMIN Benjamin’s father, STEVE, who is wearing a white safari outfit, runs to him looking concerned. STEVE Benjamin, what is it? BENJAMIN Just a thorn. I’m going to take some more pictures at the riverside. Meet you at camp. When Benjamin walks away, Sue, who is behind the bushes, backs away very quietly and follows Benjamin. SUE (V.O.) I saw the boy moving away from the group and decided to follow him. And just maybe, he might know where mom and dad were. CUT TO: 18 EXT. FOREST CLEARING - MINUTES LATER 18 Benjamin is standing in the center within a circular clearing built around an ancient stone ruin. A bird lands on the stones and he takes its picture. Sue sits on a branch hidden by leaves, she looks down at him. SUE (V.O.) I climbed up a tree, and watched him flash his camera, until he flashed at me. Startled, slipped and came tumbling down right on top of him. Sue comes flying down and falls on top of Benjamin. SUE (Falling) Ahhhh! 12. Benjamin crashes down with Sue on top. They both stare at each other, eyes wide. SUE (V.O.) Up close he looked so fine. But then I remembered my parents. Sue gets off quickly and grabs the nearest stick and stands to her defense. SUE What do you people want from my forest? BENJAMIN Your forest? She pokes him with the stick. BENJAMIN (CONT'D) Owww! What’s your problem? SUE Go back to your own territory! BENJAMIN Hey, relax. We’re just here on a tour. SUE (V.O.) Just as the boy took one step towards me, my panda crew appeared, and his face turned pale. Sophie and about 3 more Panda’s appear and stand behind Sue. Benjamin takes a step back in fear. SUE Not so brave now are we? BENJAMIN Ar-ar-aren’t you scared? SUE Nope, but you and all your people should be. Unless you want to be our supper. Sue winks at the panda’s and then they growl at Benjamin, and he runs off. SUE (CONT'D) Haha! Good, one! 13. Sue cuddles her pandas. SUE (VO It wasn't until we chased him off that I remembered I should have asked him about my parents. Not so good after all. CUT TO: 19 EXT. WATERFALL - THAT EVENING Sue collects some water from the waterfall and while she is there she sees a girl, MIMI, picking berries. SUE (V.O.) After all that drama, my throat felt dry, so I went the waterfall to grab some water, only to find a girl picking the wrong type of berries. Mimi, a tall blond girl is picking berries and was about to put one into her mouth. SUE (V.O.) (CONT'D) And just as she was about to place one in her mouth, I leaped like a leopard and tumbled into her, saving her from being poisoned. MIMI AHHHHHHHH! Get off me! What is wrong with you, you stupid girl? Now my dressed is all muddied up. Mimi pushes Sue off her as Benjamin walks into the clearing. SUE A little thank you would be nice. BENJAMIN Ladies! What's going on here? MIMI This cow jumped on me for nothing! Look at my dress! SUE This cow just saved your life, you ungrateful monkey! Those berries were poisonous. 19 14. MIMI (walking off, brushing off her dress) Whatever. I'm telling my dad! SUE (V.O.) I was surprised by her behavior. The bratty girl just walked off without even apologizing, but the handsome boy stayed behind. BENJAMIN Look, we come in peace, and we won’t do anything to harm your forest, I promise. Sophie appears from the forest and stands next to Sue. Benjamin leaps a little, but Sue quickly takes his hand. SUE Wait. She won’t hurt you. As long as you do come in peace. They smile at each other. Sue’s STOMACH GRUMBLES. SUE (V.O.) I tried to squeeze my stomach to make it stop grumbling, but I was super hungry, since all the food in the house had run out. BENJAMIN You can join us for supper if you like. Sophie yanks Sue's hand as though she knew what Benjamin was offering. BENJAMIN (CONT'D) There’s plenty to eat. Please? SUE (V.O.) Since the boy was literally begging me to eat their food, I decided to go with him. Plus Sophie wouldn't take no for an answer. Benjamin, Sue and Sophie walk together toward camp. BENJAMIN So what’s your name and what are you doing out here all by yourself? 15. SUE (motions to Sophie) Oh, I'm never really alone. SUE (V.O.) My parents taught me never to give my real name away so I quickly thought of this famous singer dad always bragged about. SUE Michel Jackson, my name is Michael Jackson. BENJAMIN (Surprised) Huh... okay, Michael Jackson... They continue walking until they reach the camp. SUE (V.O.) I wanted to ask him right away about my parents, but something just didn't feel right. The timing was way too coincidental with them showing up. So I thought I'd check out the camp first, before asking. 20 EXT. CAMPSITE DINNER TABLE - THAT EVENING About a dozen tents are set up in a large clearing. In the middle sits a long table with food along the length. Sue sits with Benjamin and his crew. Mimi glares at Sue Sternly. SUE (V.O.) While I dined with Benjamin's people, I felt a little awkward as I kept looking for signs of my parents. Then his father started questioning me. STEVE You seem a little nervous, Michael Jackson. So were are you from? SUE Uhm... from the South? STEVE Are you sure? And your parents, do they work around here? 20 16. SUE Yes. All around here, mostly. SUE (V.O.) I tried to keep my answers very short and then I saw dad's ring on the man's finger. My head started spinning, so I quickly excused myself. SUE Uh Sorry! Excuse me while go to the loo. CUT TO: 21 EXT. CAMPSITE - AWAY FROM THE DINNER TABLE - MOMENTS LATER 21 Sue walks past a row of white tents and then she sees some movement in one of the tents. SUE (V.O.) When I was away from the table, I started panicking, but I had to be brave for my parents. And then I saw some movement inside one of the tents. Sue walks to a tent, which looks like people are inside. When she looks inside she sees her parents tied up. SUE (V.O.) (CONT'D) I bravely approached the tent and looked inside, and was shocked to see my parents all tied up. Mom, dad! SUE She hugs them crying and then removed the gag from their mouth. SHA Sue! Oh thank goodness. SUE (V.O.) I quickly started untying them, but the ropes were so tight. DAVID Hurry up Sue, before they come. 17. SUE (V.O.) But I was too late, Benjamin entered. BENJAMIN What are you doing in here? SUE Stay away from me. You and your people took my parents. BENJAMIN No! I swear I had nothing to do with this. I am as surprised asA hand suddenly holds Benjamin's mouth from behind. Steve stood behind him, angry and imposing. SUE (V.O.) Steve appeared behind Benjamin and then his bodyguards gagged and tied him up. We see the body guards tying Benjamin up and gagging him. STEVE This is turning out to be a nice little anti-family reunion. (laughs) SUE What do you want from us? STEVE Just the treasure map. Bring it to me and I'll let your parents go. Guards, escort SUE out and get rid of Benjamin. SUE But he's your son! STEVE My brother's son, so I don't need him anymore, since his trust fund is all drained out. Steven approaches Sue with an ugly grin on his face. STEVE (CONT'D) Now let's see about getting that treasure map shall we? CUT TO: 18. 22 EXT./INT. TREE HOUSE LIVING ROOM - MINUTES LATER 22 Sue walks in from another room, and bangs the treasure chest down in front of him. He rubs his hands together and opens the lid, takes out the treasure map with wide, crazy eyes. SUE (V.O.) I gave the map to the greedy old man, thinking he would give my mom and dad back. I had a lot to learn about bad people. SUE Here's your map. Give me back my parents. STEVE In good time. Now you will take us to the treasure. SUE But you said after I give you the map you would let my parents go! STEVE I don't like repeating myself. (motions for the guards to move next to the pandas) Take us to the treasure. CUT TO: 23 EXT. MOUNTAIN TRAIL - HOURS LATER High above the forest, Sue leads them along a treacherous, rocky path along the face of steep mountain. Sue is leading the way while Steve and his people follow behind. They stop when they hear SCREAMING coming from behind. It's Mimi running as fast as she could. SUE (V.O.) We had been walking for many hours, following the map. Then we heard Mimi screaming her lungs out, running towards us. MIMI Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! 23 19. SUE (V.O.) Right behind was the king Panda of the forest. He was a huge, angry and snarling panda thundering up the trail. I instantly knew what we had to do. Run! SUE Everyone runs as the panda chases after them up the trail. The panda chases them into a high mountain valley. We see more ancient ruins dotting the hills, and three mountain peaks, each with a large cave. When the Panda sees the valley, it stops, and beats a hasty retreat. SUE (V.O) (CONT'D) Eventually we lost king Panda and we reached a place where there were three mountains in a high valley. We had to consult the map again. 24 EXT. HIGH VALLEY WITH DISTANT PEAKS - MOMENTS LATER Everyone just stands and stares at the awesome site. Sue looks at the map and then smiles. SUE I think this is where the treasure is, in the middle cave. Mimi grabs the map from Sue. MIMI Daddy you were going on a treasure hunt and you didn't think of taking me? Hey, where's Benjamin? STEVE Don't worry about it. We're rich now and with all that treasure I'm going to buy you the biggest mansion ever. Mimi gives it about 1 second of thought, then skips down the road. Steve motions for Sue to keep going. 24 20. SUE (V.O.) Mimi very quickly forgot about Benjamin and skipped ahead, thinking about the big mansion her father was going to buy after stealing our treasure. CUT TO: 25 EXT. LARGE CAVE - DAY 25 They all walk up to a huge cave entrance going back into the mountain. SUE You want me to go first. Make sure there's no-Steve brushes past her. STEVE Out of my way! Come on Mimi. Let's take a look at our new treasure. 26 INT. LARGE CAVE - MINUTES LATER 26 Steve carries the map and they hurry forward, not noticing the ancient carvings on either side of the entrance. AT THE TOP OF THE MOUND - MOMENTS LATER 27 Mimi and Steve reach the treasure chest at the same time. STEVE Look what I found! MIMI Look what I found! They look into the chest and-STEVE (CONT'D) "Screams." MIMI (CONT'D) "Screams." CUT TO: 28 EXT. MOUNTAIN TRAIL - MOMENTS LATER 28 Sue is running away from the mountain area and then she stops when a guard blocks her way. SUE (V.O.) Taking advantage of all the interest in the treasure, I started running back to camp to free my parents. I had only just started, when I heard blood curdling screams. I knew it couldn't be good. Steve and Mimi walk up to Sue. Two guards follow behind them, carying the chest between them. Steve's face is beet-red. SUE (V.O.) (CONT'D) At first I thought they were running from a monster, but when I saw their faces, they didn't look scared. They looked angry. The gaurds drop the chest in front of Sue. Steve flings open the lid. Sue looks inside to find just a bunch of books. STEVE You tricked us! Where is my treasure!? Sue picks up a book. SUE Wow, this looks interesting. How to start your own organic farm. STEVE Errrrrr! You stupid girl, where is my treasure? Or I swear I'll-- 22. BENJAMIN (O.C.) Haven't you ever heard that one man's trash is another man's treasure? SUE (V.O.) Steve was so angry, and he was making it my fault. I felt so overwhelmed! Until I saw Benjamin walk to us with a group of men dressed in blue. Benjamin appears with the police. BENJAMIN Next time when you throw your son in the ditch, maybe take his cellphone away when you do it. Officers arrest this trash. SUE (V.O.) The bad man and his bratty daughter were taken away, and then Benjamin hugged me and I felt safe again. BENJAMIN I'm so sorry about all this. SUE My parents, are they okay? BENJAMIN Yes, they are waiting for you back at camp. CUT TO: 29 INT. TREE HOUSE KITCHEN - A FEW WEEKS LATER 29 Sue and her parents dig into the treasure box, reading through all the books, even Sophie has a book, and inside one of the books was a letter. SUE (V.O.) As my parents and I were going through the treasure box with all the treasure, mom found a letter inside one of the books. Sha holds up the letter. SHA Hey look at this. 23. SUE (V.O.) We read the letter together which was dated a few decades ago. We see what the letter describes - a wild-haired man writing books. Looking at the stars. Making notes. Lots of math. SHA (Reading) Dear kindred spirit. Congratulations on finding the treasure trove. Knowledge is power. If you want to change the world, read these books. Then keep on reading. Read everything you can. The family grabs a book each and plops on the furniture. SUE (V.O.) While reading, Benjamin popped by, and addressed my parents. Benjamin walks through the door, waves. Gives Sophie a big bunch of berries. BENJAMIN I'd like to know if I can take Sue Michel Jackson on a date in the city. I have a helicopter waiting outside. Dad looks over at Sue. DAD Sue Michael Jackson? SHA A helicopter? CUT TO: 24. 30 EXT./INT. FLASHBACK - CITY LAWYER OFFICE - DAY 30 We watch Benjamin pull up to an office in a taxi. Inside. we see a lawyer hand him a will, and shakes his hand. SUE (V.O.) After the police took the bad people away, Benjamin went back to the city. He found out that his father left a will for him, a will his uncle didn't know about... so he became a millionaire overnight. 31 INT. LIVING ROOM - PRESENT TIME David is looking out the window into a large clearing where there's a helicopter. DAVID Just bring her back safely. SHA Wait let me fix her hair first. Mom fixes Sue's hair. She gives her two panda like ear bumps on the side of her head. Sue looks in the mirror with Sophie at her side. Perfect! SUE Arm in arm, Benjamin and Sue walk out the door. SUE (V.O.) I held onto Benjamin's arm and went out on my first date in a helicopter. I was super excited. SUE So where were are we going? BENJAMIN We are going out for Pizza. SUE Perfect! I love pizza. (beat) What is pizza? 31 25. 32 EXT. BAMBOO FOREST - DAY Benjamin and Sue are walking to the helicopter and her parents are standing with a group of panda's waving at them just before they climb into the helicopter. SUE (V.O.)
