Burn-out: Tips to Get Your Writing Groove Back!
Every writer will, at some point in their career, come across writing burn-out. You’ve probably been through it many times: You have tons of articles, stories, that large novel, or a batch of poems that need to get done, but you’re at the point where you literally want to just walk away. It’s easy to get tired of writing on the same topics (whether it’s for articles, blog posts, etc.), so sit back, relax and read these tips I’ve come up with to get your writing back on track.
1. Take time out for a special “you” project. Like to scrapbook? Set aside your writing and focus on finishing that holiday page. If you’re a crafter or sewer, take some time and work on a project that you’ve been meaning to get to, or if you are not a crafty person, take a bubble bath and read a favorite book!
2. Scale back your daily or weekly writing goals. Allowing yourself to work on a smaller work load should ease some of your burn-out. However, for some writers, scaling back goals isn’t an option, especially when your budget is dependent on your writing income. If you’re one of these writers, then maybe just scale back for one week, just to give yourself a break.
3. Don’t force yourself to write! I have done this many times, and I always end up having to go back and re-write the piece. Forcing yourself to write most times results in sloppily written work.
4. If you have willing help, take it. There have been a few times when fellow writers badly needed work and I gladly shared with them! If you have friends or online writers who are willing and able to help out with your work-load, accept it!
5. Play a game like Sudoku or take on a crossword puzzle. Give yourself a writing break, but still give your brain a workout.
