Saturday, April 19, 2003 turned out to be a perfect day to celebrate the earth. Even though the
morning started off overcast, the sun eventually came out in all its glory and there was a gentle
breeze that minimized what would have otherwise been a scorching hot day.
Families were able to enjoy an educational and fun filled day out with a myriad of activities that
included live musical groups, free tree giveaways as well as pet adoptions.
This marked the second year that the county has sponsored this event, changing the venue
from Constitution Park to Quiet Waters Park, which easily accommodated the over 3,500
visitors that took part in the festivities. Sixty seven vendors including environmentally conscious
individuals, government agencies and other private companies took part, displaying their
products and environmental initiatives.
The overwhelming turnout showed the willingness of the community to actively make a
difference, starting a momentum that the county will surely build on for next year’s festivities.
