“I am leader I wanted to follow”
Since childhood, I had craze to do something different than others and gain an extremely powerful position early in my life. I have dealt with serious crises when I was 12 years old. From my elementary school to college, my mother reminded me of my worth and supported the decisions that I made. Since that time I had created a vision to get out of every situation. I was courageous and not afraid to take the challenges to make things better. Rather to choose a person as an inspiration, I worked on my personal growth. I thought deeper to exercise my full potential and wisdom.
The journey began when I started matriculation, I knew that marks of matriculation worth throughout my life career. I was emotionally intelligent by birth. I was lucky to have good friends as well as focusing on my studies. I had to work as part time data entry operator in an IT software company to meet my educational expenses. Since then I started to realize time, people and processes management. Then gradually moving from intermediate to Certified Professional Accountant, I became more aware about myself. During this tenure, I worked on my definite aim to become a branded personality in a technology based industry and attended numerous leadership certified trainings.
Following my dream at 20 years of my age, I grab the opportunity to work as business analyst with much difficulty as there was high competition with pool of candidates with high grades. Telling you truth, I was an average student in my studies, even I worked very hard. No doubt working part time affected by studies. But I learned from failures and crises. As a business analyst I observed that certain personality qualities must exist to run a business exceptionally well. So I developed a passion within myself to practice tolerance, confidence, transparency, integrity, open mindedness, decisiveness, positivity, generosity, persistence, effective communication, accountability and resource management at that position.
I had tolerance and integrity in my blood by birth but I gained other skills from experience in many diversified positions. I was on right path towards my motive with zeal. Gradually I promoted in my position due to some of the well- handled situations during my job. I had won three employee of the year awards and international tours due to my exceptional performance. Being stand out from other employees, one day my chairman gave me an opportunity to deal with the financial crises in severe competition. I considered it last golden chance of my life to prove what is in myself regarding business management. I obtain the permission from chairman to communicate at corporate level with geographically distant departments.
Within 40 days of my day and night hard work, I came up with the best proposal after negotiating with the banks, shareholders and company people. The title of my proposal was “Audience, Benefit, Pain, Curiosity, and Urgency” and the purpose was to finance long term growth. After agreement with the board, my proposal was successfully implemented within 15 days. From that period of time to two years later, the company was on new path of success while challenging extreme competition in the industry. There was $60 million of increase in revenue and $87 million of reduction in cost. Within one year of company success I was chosen as CEO.
Finally I got what I wanted. I celebrated my success with my co-workers and friends because they were part of my success. Now, my leadership style is transformational by initiating changes in the organizations, groups and within myself. Through my leadership approach I have gained committed and satisfied followers. As a CEO I have to lead and oversee the implementation of company’s long term and short term strategies and plans, ensure effective internal controls and management information system are in practice, to develop board agendas, to ensure that company maintains the high standards of corporate social responsibility. In parallel, as a leader I develop coordination between people within inside and outside the company. I am disciplined, focused, achiever, dedicated, enthusiastic, adaptable, tactful, risk taking, cooperative and trusting. I also face challenges in maintaining managerial effectiveness, inspiring others, developing employees, leading a team, guiding change, managing stakeholders and politics.
I believe and follow the “trait leadership theory” because I know I am born with certain qualities such as intelligence, sense of responsibility and creativity. I am assessed regularly by the board and chairman using “Managerial Grid” to identify I have maintained the required leadership behavior. I am a hero of my company and society. I work on these principles[ CITATION Bra16 \l 1033 ]
“The task of a leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been”Henry A, Kissinger
“A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way”
