3. OPERATIONS
MDC is operated through dual electric power source i.e. WAPDA and 2 x
GenSets. All three are combined on ATS installed outside MDC. In case of unavailability of main electric power from WAPDA, GenSet – 1 takes over in 30
seconds. In case GenSet – 1 malfunction, GenSet – 2 is initiated manually through
manual changeover switch by generator operator. During change over time, UPS
takes on the load of entire MDC less CRAC Units.
Power alarm system (comprising light and warning alarm) is installed in MDC
NOC, which is activated in case of un-availability of power from WAPDA and
Gensets. This is to alert personnel on duty to act in case of power is not restored
from Genset(s) and/or Main WAPDA.
Two x 10 tons of precision CRAC units are installed to maintain temperature
and humidity levels in the Data Centre. Both units run alternately on 12 hours
interval.
Fire/smoke detection and suppression system is installed to handle any
untoward situation in case fire breaks out in MDC. Following picture illustrates
location of fire/smoke detection sensors:
First sensor sends a signal to alarm system if it senses any smoke/fire. As soon as
second sensor detects smoke/fire, second fire alarm will start to sound and with that
fire suppression system is activated to launch automatically in 15 secs, if no safety
action is taken. In case fire suppression system is not activated automatically, a
manual switch is available for activation/ de-activation of fire suppression system.
Following picture show location of fire suppression nozzles:
Video surveillance system compromising four cameras and IP based DVR is installed
to record non-stop video 24 x 7 for 21 days. Live video and recording can be watched
through remote access software over LAN and VPN.
