STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Ever since the early days of my youth, I was fascinated by the vehicles whizzing by as I sat looking out of my window, the marvels of engineering that I witnessed driving at great speeds while cheering on the F1 races on the television, all of these sights and sounds have fascinated me and color my childhood memories. I needed to understand how different materials were put together, how these materials were selected, how engines were made, and how these myriad aspects of modern engineering came together to design and create working and effective vehicles. This interest in cars soon translated into an appreciation for Physics and Mathematics. Thus, to develop a firm grasp over the creation and development of automobiles, I elected to pursue a Bachelor’s in ____________ at the prestigious _______________ College. My degree in Engineering is integral to my burgeoning knowledge of the world of machines. My undergraduate program has given me a strong foundation in subjects, like Strength of material, Machine design, Design of Mechanical Systems, which has strengthened my knowledge. My course also provided me with an elective subject, Supply Chain Management which enhanced my management skills in business perspective. I believe this bachelor’s program was the best possible study that suits both, my short term and long term career goals. Armed with a sound background of technical knowledge, I have also completed my final year project - ‘_________________________________________,’ in a team of four people. This project saw us create a two wheeled vehicle with a solid suspicion system. The bot we developed was self-balancing across smooth and rough terrain, while maintaining balance using an accelerometer and gyro-meter linked to an Arduino control. The vehicle could be controlled using a joystick for steering and the project was a great success. This experience also taught me to choose appropriate material; moreover, this in turn fortified my ability to design effective vehicles for the chassis, body, and wheels of the robotic vehicle designed. I have completed an internship at ________________, where I enjoyed hands-on training of the power plant familiarization. At the early stages of the training, I got to know about the different process which are carried out inside the plant and also their workings. Furthermore, I was also provided with the information about the systems used inside the thermal power station like Coal handling plant, Conveying system, Ash handling plant, Electrostatic precipitator, Boiler, Steam turbine, Power generator system, condenser and cooling towers and Water treatment plant. This internship was important because I learned to _________________________. I have also completed an internship at ___________________, where I worked in the component overhaul department. I learned about aircraft design and materials used for different airplane components, including wheels, brakes, landing gears, et al. I was fascinated in particular, by the fact that the materials used for these components had to be light-weight, but also robust. This further elucidated the importance of material technology and machine design to me and strengthened my resolve to pursue a Master’s course in _________________________. I believe that these experiences have set the foundation for my desired study for the aforementioned Master’s degree, and I look forward to securing the same at the ______________ University. With the varsity’s reputation for innovation, and research expertise, I am certain of achieving my career goals, which echo in the learning outcomes of this program. My professional goal is to work in the Mechanical companies like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Larsen & Toubro where I shall be able to devote myself in the field. This goal will be best served through working under the supervision of Professor Dr. ___________________, whose focal areas in research such as _____________, __________________ and _________________ are of key interest to me. I am also certain that my passion to learn, and desire to grow will hold me in good stead as I pursue this degree and thus, I submit my application to study at the ____________________ University.
