IMPACT OF 2 MAJOR UPCOMING ICT POLICIES ON THE GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY COMPANIES
The following are two of the more significant policy actions among several initiatives of the ICT sector in the
Philippines. As of the present, the main agency tasked to spearhead these is the newly instituted Department of
Information and Communication Technology now headed by former Senator now Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II.

AN ACT PROVIDING FOR ADDITIONAL ORGANIZATIONAL AND OPERATIONAL
FUNDING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS
TECHNOLOGY (DICT), TO PROMOTE COST-EFFICIENT ICT INFRASTRUCTURES AND
PROJECTS, TO FOSTER GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES

In an international viewpoint, this legislative measure aims to promote strategic partnerships and
alliances between and among local and international ICT, research and development, educational
and training institutions, to speed up industry growth and enhance competitiveness of Philippine
workers, firms, and small and medium enterprises in the global markets for ICT and ICT-Enabled
Services.
➢
This bill will be impactful for global technology companies as it will improve the quality of
technology in the Philippines meant to attract investors from different parts of the world.

NATIONAL CYBERSECURITY PLAN 2022
IMPLEMENTING AGENCY: DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION
TECHNOLOGY

ASSESSMENT:

The DICT will implement a comprehensive National Security Plan and institutionalize the adoption
of information security and risk management approaches. It is tasked to ensure the rights of
individuals to privacy and confidentiality of personal information, guarantee the security of critical
information infrastructures, and safeguard the security of information assets of the government,
individuals and business.
➢
The impact of the National Cybersecurity Plan 2022 of DICT to global technology companies is to
provide safe and secure environment to draw potential investors to work with local ICT companies
in the Philippines.
