How to Schedule an Automated Shutdown in Windows 10 Does turning off your computer seem like a daunting task? Are you unable to find a suitable time to shutdown your PC till the next time you work? Do you have an addiction to your computer screen which makes you not want to press ‘shutdown’? Well, I have the perfect solution for you: why not create a scheduled task that will automatically turn off your PC. I know, it sounds like a daunting challenge that may involve writing some programs into your command prompt right? Well, not really. Creating a shutdown schedule for your PC is the best way to ensure that your device turns off after a stipulated time and with a schedule you will never have to worry about turning off your system again. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you set up a scheduled task for shutting down your PC every weekday: 1. Go to the search icon on the bottom left of your taskbar bar, and search for the task scheduler application. 2. Once you are in, locate the ‘create basic task’ option at the top right corner of the application. It should look like the image below. Click on it and a new window will open called ‘create basic task wizard.’ 3. In the new window you will get two input boxes with a ‘name’ and description.’ Input the name of the task (in this case Shutdown) and a description into the input boxes. Then click next. 4. After clicking next, you will be taken to the next process, the ‘trigger’ section. Here, you can decide on the time when you want your task to start or conditions you want it to begin under. For this guide: a. click on the weekly option and click next. b. After clicking next, you will be taken to a new section with a ‘start option,’ ‘a recur every’ option, and tick boxes for days of the week. c. On the start option select the date and time you want your task to begin. d. Next you choose the interval at which you want your task to occur by putting a number in the recur every box. e. Next, you select the days you want your task to be performed. In this case, tick from Monday to Friday. After that click next. 5. On clicking next, you will be taken to the ‘action’ menu. Here you will see 3 input boxes, a ‘program/script’ option, an ‘add arguments’ option, and a ‘start in’ option.Type in the name of the program you want to run (in this case type in shutdown). Now, in the add arguments option enter the following command without the quotation marks: ‘/s /f /t 0’ and after that, press 6. On pressing next, you will be taken to the last section of the wizard. Click finish. next. And that’s it, you have successfully created a scheduled task that will turn off your computer every week day.
