10 Games Similar to Candy Crush
Who doesn’t love candies? Maybe it’s the primary reason why I loved this game (aside
from the fact that I simply love puzzle games). Candy Crush was the talk of the town
when it was released by King on 2012. It was initially introduced on Facebook and then
later on had apps on iOS, Android, Windows Phones, and Windows 10. After it’s
successful release, a lot of similar games were released that went with the tide with
Candy Crush Saga’s success. That’s why I decided to create a list of other games that
have similarities with Candy Crush. But first let’s take a peek on how the gameplay is
like so we can compare a bit better.
The basic gameplay is switching adjacent candies to form three candies of the same
color.
Forming four to five same candies in a certain formation gives you a “Special Candy”
Four candies make a Stripe Candy which clears an entire row
Five candies make a Wrapped Candy that blows 8 surrounding candies, falls and
then blows again.
Form five candies on a straight row and you get the Color Bomb.
Which gets rid of all of the candies that match the color of the candy that is matched
with it.
In-app purchases feature extra lives or hearts and other special candies like the
Lollipop Hammer which clears a single candy on the board. You can use a credit
card, iTunes credits, or Google Play credits to purchase items.
In regards with the levels that you pass, most of the early stages are a bit easy, but
later on you get to encounter obstructions like Chocolate Spawners that creates
chocolate blocks. These blocks can only be destroyed once you form candies next to
them.
Beat levels by completing the requirement given. Make 50 matches with just
minimal amount of moves, or finish the game (level) before the time runs out.
It’s not just about watching candies to blast by blowing up sweets, it has a story too.
Lots of kids, well not only kids but most of us love the idea of traveling somewhere and
not knowing where to go or who will we meet along the way, same as with this game.
Every certain level you pass, you get to meet a new character and help him to solve a
problem. Then you start blowing candies again until the next creature shows up.
So with that being said, let’s leave the sweets behind for a second and check out the list
I made:
1. Farm Heroes Saga
In this game, instead of sweets, we will collect fruits and veggies. These are the types of
veggies that kids love! I think King got tired of sweets and wanted to have a healthy
living, that’s why they released this game around 2013.
Generally, it’s gameplay is somehow alike to Candy Crush. Same puzzle type game that
makes you form 3 of the same color or same veggies and fruits, it has an appealing
background that will attract kids and adults who want to be like kids again (just like
me). Has a fun and pleasant sound for the vegetables and fruits whenever you collect
them. And just like Candy Crush, you can compare scores with your friends on
Facebook who are playing the game too. It’s quite competitive, right?
The game also has In-app purchases for special items. It’s almost identical to Candy
Crush if it weren’t for those fruits and veggies, not to mention they have faces LOL!
Before you start harvesting those fruits and veggies and make yourself your very own
salad, let’s move on to the next game, shall we?
2. Bejeweled Blitz
These shiny things aren’t candies at all. Who would have thought jewels has other uses
other than putting them on a bunch of rings and necklaces. Just like Candy Crush, it was
originally made as a Facebook App. Though this wasn’t released King but by PopCap
Games. I find it comical for a puzzle game to have a voice-over that sounds like the one
in Mortal Kombat. Am I the only one who thought of that?
Anyway, the goal of the game is to make the highest score possible in just a minute.
Aside from the typical “form three colors together” game, I do like the background
music of the game. Though it does sound like Mortal Kombat, it will give you a feeling of
sudden rush which will make you panic a little bit. The music totally blends in with the
gameplay. Thus, I think the creator of this game did it for the gamers to feel quite
pressure while on the verge of finishing the game up to the last second. Though it
doesn’t have any special jewels, it somehow gives you a higher score when you
combine more than 3 of the same color.
Despite of the fact that it doesn’t have a story to follow, it gets as difficult as Candy
Crush because you get to break the record every time you play it which made me love
the game since it’s a challenging one for me.
3. Frozen Free Fall
Do I have to answer why I love this game? Doesn’t everybody love anything with Olaf in
it? Well this game was released by Disney Mobile for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and
PlayStation 4. It’s a match-three game just like Candy Crush but it’s more fun to play
because of it’s icy-like effects just like in the film, and it is indeed appealing especially
when you are a Frozen fan.
The game’s storyline is much like the movie. The gameplay resembles a lot with Candy
Crush though. It also has a daily bonus if you get to log in everyday. What’s even more
fun is, other characters from the movie will help you with every stage you play. It has
the same concept of limited moves and you need to meet certain requirements to beat
every level.
The things that you move actually looks like frozen jewels which looks totally
magnificent. Frozen free fall has a soothing music that somewhat relaxes the gamers
while they play. The visual effects are totally cool and awesome as well.
As much as I would like to admit, this game isn’t just played by kids as there are plenty
of adults who play it as well. Well for me, I think there’s no need to answer on whether I
love this game or not. Just like what I’ve mentioned earlier, I love anything that has Olaf
in it.
4. Jelly Splash
We started from Candies to Fruits and Veggies, and now we have Jellies. Doesn’t that
make you feel hungry even for a bit?
Jelly Splash is a three-match game pretty much like Candy Crush. It was released by
Wooga on 2013 and is available in iOS, then later on was released on Android, Kakao
Talk and Facebook. It also has In-app store where you get to buy boosts, extra lives and
extra moves as well.
In regards with the gameplay, it does share a lot of resemblance to Candy Crush like the
level interface and colorful jellies and it’s background. The only thing that makes it
differ from Candy Crush is the way on how you play the game. Though it’s a
match-three game, it’s not the typical “slide the candy and form 3 of the same candies”
type of game. Jelly Splash is played by connecting similar jellies together and making
the longest connection possible because the moves are limited just like in Candy Crush.
The longer the line you make, the more super jellies will appear.
There are obstacles too like mushrooms or slime just to make it more challenging. What
made me love this game is how it twisted the way three-match games are played.
Sliding to form pieces are too normal for three match games, I find “connect the same
pieces as long as you can” a lot of more exciting to play.
5. Atlantis Adventure
Am I the only one thinking about going to an ancient sunken city for an adventure? Kids
who love this mythological city will certainly get hooked by this game. Atlantis
Adventure is a three-match game by Big Fish. It has the same concept as Candy Crush,
but the pieces being played looks a lot like jewels.
Basically you need to reach a certain amount of points or other requirement such as
clearing all the blocks to beat a level, you are then get rewarded by receiving stars each
level you beat. The amount of stars given will depend on how much points you acquired
and the maximum starts given each level is three. Remember you have limited moves to
finish every level so you need to be careful on choosing what to piece you are going to
move.
Over all, I’d say it is a good game to play, you can switch on this game while waiting for
your hearts to refill in Candy Crush. It’s basically like playing Candy Crush but with a
different story line and graphics.
6. Zuma’s Revenge
The ball-spitting frog is back! I totally hate frogs, but I do love this game a lot! I can play
this for hours and not get bored. This was the game I played a lot until Candy Crush was
released. Zuma’s Revenge was released on 2009 by PopCap games, which is actually a
sequel to their game Zuma. It doesn’t necessarily mimic Candy Crush like the other
games did, but it surely is one of those games you’ll get addicted to.
In this game, you get to shoot balls or something like ancient stones to other stones
which are rolling. You need to match at least three of the same color or them to explode
and for you to score. You get to pick where to shoot the stones and you get to switch
your current to the next stone if the rolling stones aren’t the same as with the color of
the stone you are about to shoot.
Thinking it’s easy? Think again! Stones must not reach the hole which will be at the end
of the track. That means you have limited time. To beat the game, you need to blow up
every stone on the track. The more of the same color you blow up, the higher the score
you’ll get. And don’t you guys worry, just like Candy Crush, you will also get to have
power ups. But this time, they just appear randomly on the tracks together with the
rolling stones.
Why do I love this game? Well basically, just like with Candy Crush, it seemed to be a
normal arcade game for kids. However, once you start playing it, you might end up
screaming and running around the house calling Zuma a “Stupid Frog”. It is a superb
game, but definitely ain’t easy, which makes it a lot fascinating. Especially if you’re up
for a challenge.
7. FarmVille : Harvest Swap
Who doesn’t know about the game that was all over Facebook back in the days? I was
one of those people who spent hours planting and harvesting crops on FarmVille. Zynga
released FarmVille: Harvest Swap. However, it’s not like the old FarmVille though. It’s a
three-match game pretty much like Candy Crush, but with a more beautifully made
graphics which will surely attract adults to play the game too.
And since it’s FarmVille, you get to play using not just vegetables but fruits as well. The
gameplay, music, in-app store, level set up and everything are most likely the same with
Candy Crush. What really caught my attention are the 3d graphics used in the game,
and perhaps because I was a big fan of this game. I’m absolutely sure you will love
playing this game! If you haven’t tried playing it yet then I recommend you to do so. It’s
a great time killer!
8. Monster Busters
Still afraid of monsters under the bed or in your closet? Here’s your chance to bust
monster and scare the hell out of them! Monster Busters is available in iOS, Android
and Facebook. This game is another three-match and uses monsters instead of candies
being crushed.
Similar to Candy Crush, you get to connect the game to Facebook if you’re playing on
your mobile device. Doing this gives you access to your Facebook friends who are
playing the game as well. Having lots of friends playing this will also mean a lot of help
since you have to request lives from them whenever you run out of lives.
The game level includes a tower which you need to climb, each level has different
requirements of overcoming it. From reaching a particular score to destroying certain
type of monsters on the board. You won’t get bored playing since you have more than
600 floors with 2 or 3 levels in every floor. It might take you months to finish the entire
game. It’s the same reason why I love this game as much as I love Candy Crush, though
they have the same type of three-match game, they both as well do stand out from the
rest, from presentation, music, enormous amount of levels in the game. Not to mention
busting each monster that might have scared you as a kid. It’s really a game you can
play for hours and will certainly won’t get bored.
9. Legend of Egypt : Jewels of the Gods
I have long been fascinated with pyramids and mummies so I do tend to play anything
connected to them. Legend of Egypt: Jewel of the Gods offers something different when
it comes to three-match type of games. It does look a bit similar with the other games
mentioned above. However, in this game you build settlements in Egypt every progress
you make in the game. Imagine, You built Egypt! Now how awesome is that? (at least
you built something amazing even just in a game right?).
Aside from that, all the other features that Candy Crush and other three-match have are
in this one too, like the more pieces you put together, the higher the points. I really love
playing this game since it has a great storyline and have I mentioned you get to build
Egypt? Oh yes I did!
10. Diamond Digger Saga
Yes! Diamonds are in this game, the best part? There are lots of other gems included.
Diamond Digger Saga is another three-match game from King, which made it more
similar to Candy Crush.
The gameplay is same as Candy Crush, like that typical match three or more pieces
together. But the visuals are quite a bit dull compared to Candy Crush but doesn’t take
the fun out of the game. The music and the visuals compliment each other, magical
music + sparkling diamonds + an adorable voice over every time you match the gems =
extreme fun.
I do think there are bunch of kids who love playing this game, since I as an adult really
do love it as much as I love Candy Crush. There is technically nothing new, but there is
something about this game that makes me feel so relaxed while playing. Unlike other
matching games which make you feel pressured every level, which makes it more like
Candy Crush.
There we go, a list of my games similar to Candy Crush. I played all of these games, but I
just realized something while writing this article. A game isn’t a rip off even if it has a
similar thing with the other games that lead a specific genre. Same with this article, not
all three-match type games are the same. A lot of them stand out for themselves. There
maybe similarities, but once you get to play the a specific game, you would find that
each of them has their own identity.
So with that being all said it’s the end of my article. I need to grab a bag of candies or
something. Goodbye for now, and happy gaming.
