FROST & LORCA
A UNIQUE FUSION OF POETRY, PROJECTIONS, ART AND THEATRE
HAS BEEN INVITED
TO PERFORM AT THE 2017
EDINBURGH FRINGE FESTIVAL
Production Dates: August 17th-23rd, 2017
SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE—FROST & LORCA, directed by John Morrow: a one of a kind
performance that celebrates the British abstract artist, Sir Terry Frost, R.A, and poet Federico
Garcia Lorca; has been invited to perform at the National Museum of Scotland during the 2017
Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The talented company will be performing this unique piece in mid
August; the first to come from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
The production is inspired by the beautiful Lorca Portfolio created by Sir Terry Frost; a
collection of eleven etchings which accompany eleven Lorca poems in both Spanish and
English.
Two British actresses and a Peruvian actor bring the portfolio to life, dramatizing the poems and
synthesizing with Frost’s paintings, while dramatically narrating stories from both the artists
lives. The etchings and poetry are both a highlight of the bilingual presentation, as they are
used digitally as the projected scenery, while a Spanish guitarist provides an original
soundscape of classical guitar to accompany the actors through the poems and stories.
The performance is a symphony art piece; tantalizing multiple senses of the audience while also
educating them through beautiful historic works of art, poetry, and theatre.
Production History
Frost & Lorca was debuted at the 2016 San Miguel de Allende Fringe Festival, an International
Cultural Platform encouraging bilingual work to be produced in the small, yet culturally diverse
Mexican city.
From there, two performances took place at the Skot Foreman Art Gallery at the Fabrica Aurora,
where the eleven original Frost etchings were also displayed as a part of the performance. The
play was then recognized and sponsored by a patron of the Fringe Festival. Alberto Lenz,
director of the The Belles Artes, a Mexican government art institute located in centro San Miguel
de Allende, recognized the uniqueness of the performance, and supported the project further by
offering a space to rehearse and develop.
Frost & Lorca was extremely well received and was encouraged to continue research and
development in pursuit of other venues, as strong education piece and culturally aware bilingual
production.
It has since been performed at MuvArte Gallery in San Miguel de Allende in February of 2017.
A Company Devised Piece
The Frost & Lorca Company began developing the idea of working with the poems and the
images of the Lorca Suite courtesy of the San Miguel Festival in Mexico in 2016. Inspired by
the desire of the Fringe to present bilingual work director John Morrow, and with images created
in the UK by Naoko Tagai and Mishi Bekesi, the company members began exploring ways of
presenting the poems and paintings in a theatrical form culminating in two public performances
in the Skot Foreman Gallery. They continued this research and development in Mexico early in
2017 with a performance at MuvArte Galleria. The performance in Edinburgh is the next phase
for the work which will continue to grow and evolve over time.

"Excellent acting and directing. Professionally done.”
-Alberto Lenz, Director, Belles Artes
“So approachable and transcendent at the same time- the stories about the artists in between
poems felt like a lovely difference in tone and humanized the poetry,"
Bill O Fares, Artist
"Radical and .... actually, revolutionary.
