Variety of Offences and Punishments imposed by the Board of Nursing Florida
According to the Board of Nursing (Florida), nurses make offenses in their career and thus face the repercussions. However, these nurses can avoid the violations by familiarizing themselves with the requirements of the BON. The following are some of the felonies done and the penalties imposed.
The BON constitutes of seven registered nurses, three LPNs who have been in practice for at least four years, and three consumer members who have never been involved in the course of nursing, all of whom must be Florida residents and be at least 60 years. These members may earn their replacements after their term expiration, although they can continue to serve until they resign, reappoint, or replace.
When an employer finds out that an LPN has tested positive for marijuana and reports to the Board of Nursing, The nurse is subjected to pay $1400, never be found impaired from marijuana at work for two years, and undergo another test. If an LPN forgot to inform the board of an address change, they are considered practically homeless. The licensee is later given a chance to update the address, which can be done online through an email. However, the nurse awaits for the license to be approved, but the board imposes no fine on the nurse.
To be granted a license to become a registered nurse (RN) or a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in Florida, one has to score above the NCLEX pass rate. Failure to do this, an RN or an LPN cannot join the Concorde School of Nursing. For a registered nurse found impaired of any drug, the Board of Nursing penalizes the nurse with a fine of $5074, undergoes a drug screen, and reprimands their license until the subsequent evaluation by an IPN approved evaluator.
If a Certified Nurse Assistant fails to update new income to the state and get benefits, their license is revoked by the Board of Nursing. If a nurse lacks a prescription, they face a summary suspension. Moreover, a nurse could be subjected to a fine of $543, and the license is suspended until IPN is completed. In conclusion, the BON protects the public from being served by incompetent and reckless nurses. It ensures that the nurses are keen as the penalties are harsh, and thus a nurse should follow the set policies and procedures.
