Introduction: Social media has taken the millennial generation by storm. Approximately 93% of young adults’ ages 18-29 reported going online, with 72% them active on at least one social media site .The most popular social media site is facebook, where 71% of young adults online have posted a profile. Given its widespread distribution and its ability to facilitate communication, social media has been proposed as a way to increase student participation, collaboration, information sharing, and critical thinking .However, there is scant empirical evidence of successful implementation of facebook as an educational tool. In this study we investigate student attitudes towards social media, their use of facebook, and the results of an experiment in delivering course enrichment through a Facebook page. This survey provides a preliminary analysis of the effects of facebook usage by students at Hazara University in mansehra .the proposed research model test paper the perceived effect on the student academic performance and negative effect and positive effect on satisfaction with life that limits the undesirable effect.
Target population: our target population was the student of Hazara university mansehra (N=1400) we select 100 sample randomly in the population.
Sample Design: our sample design is simple random sample. To collect a simple random sample, each unit of the target population is assigned a number. A set of random numbers is then generated and the units having those numbers are included in the sample. Let’s say we have a population of 14, 00 people and we wish to choose a simple random sample of 100 people. First, each person is numbered 1 through 14, 00. Then, we generate a list of 100 random numbers (typically with a computer program) and those individuals assigned those numbers are the ones you include in the sample.
Method. Data from paper-and –pencil surveys with 100 students from Hazara University in mansehra were used to test the model paper .SPSS software was employed to test the question.
Objective of the survey:
The purpose of our study is to evaluate whether is there any relationship between the use of Facebook and student’s academic performance or not, it is initial objective was to provide a place where students could share personal news, events announcements and, perhaps most importantly photograph. To recognize the advantages and disadvantages of using Facebook. To find out the steps how to cope Facebook Addiction.
BackGround: we have surveyed on facebook from Hazra University Mansehra to know that how facebook affects the academic performances of student. How much time they spend on faebook in their daily life. How much facebook is efficient for them. And to know that facebook is a social media or not. We have also surveyed to know that is facebook is a source of loosing friends or making friends. And how facebook implements the latest fashion on young generations. By using facebook are student get help for their studies or not and how facebook plays a role on the studies of the students could students create a good relationship by using facebook and how effects on the environments.
Data collection: A questionnaire was constructed to collected data from Hazara University in mansehra students. Students received the survey during one of their lectures and were asked to return them to the same lecture during the next class .Thus the students had an interval, ranging from three days to one week,to answer the survey. Ultimately, 100 completed surveys were collected out of 1400, representing an approximately 100% response rate.
Demographic characteristics: A greater population of respondents were enrolled in Hazara university related department( n=1400, 5% of the total) approximately 100 participants were enrolled in related department .The 100 students were selected randomly .
History of Facebook
Facebook is a social networking service launched in February 2004, owned and operated by Facebook It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow Harvard University students Eduardo Saverin, Azel, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes.[1] The website's membership was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and gradually most universities in Canada and the United States, corporations, and by September 2006, to everyone of age 13 and older with a valid email address.
Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook in his Harvard dorm room.
Facemash, the Facebook’s predecessor, opened on October 28, 2003.[8] Initially, the website was invented by a Harvard student, Mark Zuckerberg, and three of his classmates – Andrew McCollum, Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskovitz. Zuckerberg wrote the software for the Facemash website when he was in his second year of college. The website was set up as a type of “hot or not” game for Harvard students. The website allowed visitors to compare two student pictures side-by-side and let them choose who was “hot” and who was “not”.
That night, Zuckerberg wrote the following blog entries.
I'm a little intoxicated, not gonna lie. So what if it's not even 3 pm and it's a Tuesday afternoon? What? The Kirkland dormitory facebook is open on my desktop and some of these people have pretty horrendous facebook pics.
"Hal Wilkerson" According to The Harvard Crimson, Facemash "used photos compiled from the online facebooks of nine Houses, placing two next to each other at a time and asking users to choose the 'hotter' person". To accomplish this, Mark Zuckerberg hacked the "facebooks" Harvard maintained to help students identify each other and used the images to populate his Facemash website.
Harvard at that time did not have a student directory with photos and basic information, and with the initial site generated 450 visitors and 22,000 photo-views in its first four hours online.[12] That the initial site mirrored people’s physical community—with their real identities—represented the key aspects of what later became Facebook.[13]
"Perhaps Harvard will squelch it for legal reasons without realizing its value as a venture that could possibly be expanded to other schools (maybe even ones with good-looking people...)," Zuckerberg wrote in his personal blog. "But one thing is certain, and it’s that I’m a jerk for making this site. Oh well. Someone had to do it eventually... The site was quickly forwarded to several campus group list-servers. However, the website was shut down by Harvard executives a few days after it opened. Mark Zuckerberg faced charges of violating copyrights, breach of security, and violating individual privacy for stealing the student pictures that he used to populate the website. He later faced expulsion from Harvard University for his actions. However, all the charges were eventually dropped.
Zuckerberg expanded on this initial project that semester by creating a social study tool ahead of an art history final. He uploaded 500 Augustan images to a website, with one image per page along with a comment section.[13] He opened the site up to his classmates and people started sharing their notes. "The professor said it had the best grades of any final he’d ever given. This was my first social hack. With Facebook, I wanted to make something that would make Harvard more open," Zuckerberg said in a TechCrunch interview.
On October 25, 2010, entrepreneur and banker Rahul Jain auctioned off FaceMash.com to an unknown buyer for $30,201.
The homepage of Thefacebook on February 12, 2004
In January 2004, Mark Zuckerberg began writing the code for a new website, known as 'thefacebook'. He said in an article in The Harvard Crimson that he was inspired to make Facebook from the incident of Facemash: "It is clear that the technology needed to create a centralized Website is readily available ... the benefits are many."[9] On February 4, 2004, Zuckerberg launched "The facebook", originally located at thefacebook.com.[18] He told The Crimson, "Everyone’s been talking a lot about a universal face book within Harvard. I think it’s kind of silly that it would take the University a couple of years to get around to it as I can do it better than they can, and I can do it in a week."[19] Zuckerberg also stated his intention to create a universal website that can contact people around the university. According to his roommate, Dustin Moskovitz, "When Mark finished the site, he told a couple of friends ... then one of them suggested putting it on the Kirkland House online mailing list, which was ... three hundred people." Moskovitz continued to say that, “By the end of the night, we were ... actively watching the registration process. Within twenty-four hours, we had somewhere between twelve hundred and fifteen hundred registrants.

Chi - square test
We used chi square test to check the association between two questions. We check that is there any relationship between these two questions or not?
Assumptions
The data consist of a simple random sample of size n from some population of interest.
The observation in the sample may be cross-classified according to two criteria, so that each observation belongs to one and only one category of each criterion. The criteria are the variables of interest in a given situation.
The variables may be inherently categorical, or they may be quantities variables whose measurements are capable of being classified into mutually exclusive numerical categories.
Data Analysis’s:
Q11: Students prefer facebook activities over their studies.
Q12: Over use of facebook is one of the causes of student's low grades.
These two questions satisfies all the above assumptions because the data on which we apply chi square consist a simple random sample of size (n=100) from population of interest (N=1400).
The data may be cross-classified according to two criteria and the variables that we use to apply chi square are quantitave variables. When we apply chi-square test to check the association between the student prefer facebook activities over their studies and over use of facebook is one of the causes of student’s low grades.

When we apply chi square test to check the association between the Students prefers facebook activities over their studies and Over use of facebook is one of the causes of student's low grades. We check that whether there is any relationship between the facebook uses and students’ academic performance. After applying chi square test we get the value of chi square is 35.545 and the tabulated value of chi square with 9 degree of freedom is 16.92 and p-value is .000 As our calculated value lies in critical region so we reject our null hypotheses. This result shows that there is an association between Students prefers facebook activities over their studies and Over use of facebook is one of the causes of student's low grades.

General conclusion
We have surveyed on facebook from Hazra University Mansehra to know that how facebook affects the academic performances of student. How much time they spend on faebook in their daily life. How much facebook is efficient for them and to know that facebook is a social media or not. We have also surveyed to know that is facebook is a source of loosing friends or making friends. And how facebook implements the latest fashion on young generations. By using facebook are student get help for their studies or not and how facebook plays a role on the studies of the students could students create a good relationship by using facebook and how effects on the environments and our target population was the student of Hazara university mansehra (N=1400) we select 100 sample randomly in the population our sample design is simple random sample. A greater population of respondents were enrolled in Hazara university related department N=1400, 5% of the total ) approximately n= 100 participants were enrolled in related department .The 100 students were selected randomly. A questionnaire was constructed to collected data from Hazara University in mansehra students. Students received the survey during one of their lectures and were asked to return them to the same lecture during the next class. To find out the steps how to cope Facebook Addiction and use the statistical software for testing the question which is SPSS software was employed to test the question. When we apply chi-square test to check the association among the different question and we find percentage and make the different charts of all the question and determined on the shape of table and also we apply the chi-square test between the two question we check the association. We got the result to these question Q11: Students prefer facebook activities over their studies.Q12: Over use of facebook is one of the causes of student's low grades.
